You didn't use "logs, ln, e^x," in your Calculus classes? Interesting. :hmm:

Yes, but they certainly weren't the focus of the class. That was for precalculus.

The OP should be more worried about what a derivative is at this point than understanding what a log is.

Stop giving up so soon.

Also, make new friends and speed up your social development. Go to a meetup or something.

When I started college we had a basic pseudo code/logic class that covered a lot of math which was basically a re-hash of stuff from high school. I took a year off between HS and college so basically forgot everything. I didn't think I was going to be able to handle it, but luckily I had classmates which we're willing to help me out. If you are struggling that badly I you should find someone to help you out. Either a classmate, a tutor, or a teacher which can help out after hours. It's better than just giving up.

EDIT: Also don't even worry about the female situation, it will work itself out. I was gf-less for the most part when I was younger, then a few months after I graduated college I met someone and we have been living together for 3 years since.

you've never heeded any advice given to you here.

your threads are trainwrecks of emo puke, they're tough to resist clicking on.

hang in there, or play in traffic. there's some more advice you won't pay any mind to.

wait... you're whining because you got a little overwhelmed and had a fuzzy memory on your first day of a class?

You're screaming failure over this?

Seriously?

holy fuck. You are the definition of suburban emo.

Calc 1? Are you for real OP?

Protip: There is this thing called the "internet" that has vast amounts of information on various topics including Calculus. You may want to use that to your advantage to review

Taking all of two classes and you can't find the time to do the extra work it would take to catch up in calculus?

My definition of success is continuing to work towards your goal when facing adversity. It is definitely not quitting every time things get a little rough.

Nevermind, you keep blaming your parents, your past, your lack of financial resources, your lack of friends, your terrible city, your etc, etc., and then you'll feel better. NOT!!

There are no failures or problems, there are only challenges. Change your mindset on what a "failure" is and the rest will take care of itself.

Also, "should have" or "should of" must be stricken from your thinking. They are not logical thoughts.

Lastly, how can you define success, when you haven't even defined what makes you happy or satisfied?

"I don't even have a strong definition of what is successful except being happy and satisfied."

You need to be comfortable with who you are before you can worry about that stuff. If you are looking for a partner to be some emotional crutch, the relationship won't work.

Depending on your college, sometimes they do offer math tutors on a regular basis. Perhaps you could go to one and ask the calc professor if you can simply audit the course for the rest of the term (as in just sit/listen). It could give you a pretty big heads up what to expect when you retake it.

I know they do at Alabama. I got tutoring for calculus ii and he was better at teaching than the professor.

I think, in all seriousness, your goal should be to make a lot of money. That will make things a lot easier for you

You got a bad case of all or nothing thinking sometimes called black or white thinking. To you your life is either going great or terrible there is no in between. It is easy to spot. People that think that way use words that are absolutes like, never, always, impossible, in their thought processes. If you learn to challenge those thoughts you can change , until you do your life will continue to be miserable because nobodies life is always great.

When you think things like :
'It never really leads to anywhere that I want... I keep trying to think of fixes, but the fixes are always things that should of have never happened or should have happened a bit differently. '

Never is a really finite thing. Saying you will always do something is pretty hard to prove unless you know everything that will happen in the future. When you use the word should replace it with 'I wish' . Should implies that there was something you could have done differently and chose not to based on what you knew at the time. The word I followed by should is not something to think. It implies you consciously chose the wrong choice because you are inferior. I have rarely seen someone make a bad choice when they knew all the variables at the time.

I don't remember anything we're supposed to know already.

There you go again with the absolutes. You really don't remember anything, nothing at all, not one single thing you did in class before ? Be truthful, don't make a few things you can't remember into everything you ever learned in the class.

When you think in absolute terms you will fail. How could you not fail when you have set the bar so that there is either absolute success or absolute failure ?

You used the word never 6 times , start removing words like that from the vocabulary and you will start to see a difference.

Try harder. Especially since you've learned that stuff before. You just need to study to brush up on it.

As for the gym. Why don't you do something like starting strength where you're only in the gym 3 days a week. It's a solid program and the research is all in one book.

I haven't read the thread yet

You're quitting Calc I and you're trying for a science degree? Are you fucking insane? Everyone hates Calc I and II! You can pass this course if you really try. I quit high school at age 16 and went to university age 21. I managed to do it. So can you.

I don't think I can do the starting strength program because I thought it required a pretty intense diet too. My body doesn't like more than 3,000 calories a day, if I can even get there to begin with. I'll basically shit my pants just about every meal if I try it.

Dropping the classes today. The auditing thing was a good idea, but I don't think I can do it because the class is hellishly packed. I already missed my calculus class today because I couldn't sleep last night and I was up until 5AM. I have to go my school today anyway to inform some financial departments that I am dropping.
