So yeah, I searched on google and can't find a single list of these things...bleh.

Anyways, just looking for suggestions for some good, sad songs. I'm thinking along the lines of Tears in Heaven, here. Ideas?

Sad songs are the best. They are so somber and mellow. Most of the stuff I listen to is really lo-fi stuff. Try:

Mogwai - Come On Die Young (CODY)
Any Sigur Ros song
A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras
Anything off Nick Drakes Pink Moon albulm
Lynard Skynard - Tuesdays Gone

Speaking of Sir Elton, what about his Princess Diana remix of Candle in the Wind? They used to play that nonstop on my local adult contemporary station back at home...for months after her funeral.
