My car was idling like crap the other day so I figured since I just got it, it may have been awhile since anyone changed the oil out. I decided to go ahead and change the oil. I used Mobile 1 synthentic oil like I was reccomended on here. Anyways, I drain out the oil and noticed it was extremely dark and even after 10 minutes of draining, it was still coming out. I decided to go ahead and flush it to make sure all the bad stuff got out. I hooked up the hose, ran water through the engine, started it up and was waiting for the water to come out clean (The engine never went above idle so I was told this would be ok). Anyways, About 3 minutes into this, then engine starts shaking and shuts off. I figured it was all cleaned out so I plugged it up, added the oil and figured I was ready to go. WRONG! The car won't freaking start now. This car has been nothing but trouble for me, I think I am done with it.

Wow, what an idiot. Hose water? Who doesn't know you're supposed to use only distilled water when flushing it through the engine?

Reminds me of that post on a VW forum where the guy pulled his air filter and dumped sand in the intake to "polish" the engine.

reminds me of a commercial for some oil additive I saw years ago and they are hosing down the innards of a mopar slant six while its still running.

From what I've heard of the slant sixes, you could likely get away with it.

probably.

I ran my old slant 6 dry of oil twice and had no noticeable damage. The engine ran no differently. That was really shocking to me at the time.

I remember one like this from a number of years ago...except they are pouring sand all over the running motor's exposed valvetrain  I think it was a Chrysler V8, IIRC.

There are people who do highly stupid things to cars and I've seen many myself. I once heard where a guy installed a cooling system flush T in a PCV hose rather than a heater hose and ruined his engine. I've seen the results of many "Jiffy lube" mistakes too.
