I just heard today that Werner Kempl (sp?), the actor who played Col. Klink in Hogans Heros has just died of Cancer. He is best know for his roll as Klink and as an accomplished Classical Conductor. He was 80.

Man I'm going to miss him :( I grew up watching Hogans Heros.

Condolences,
Aquaman

This is very unfortunate. :( I am a big Hogan's Heroes fan. I watch it on cable all the time when I am lounging around the house.

It's about time someone did a Hogan's Heroes movie. My buddy and I were discussing this in-depth one night at a bar. We consumed quite heavily, and came up with some casting ideas:

Hogan - Bruce Willis
Klink - John Malkovitch
Le'Bo - Dana Carvey
Schultz - John Goodman
Newkirk - Mel Gibson
Hochstetter - Richard Dreyfus

That's sad. I remember watching it in Germany with my grandmother. It was very exciting because it was on around midnight, and at her house I was allowed to stay up that late.

Col. Klink - Not a bad guy for a Nazi.
Loved Shultz - "I know nothing"

Too bad about Werner though. A very talented individual. Think his father was big in the classical music world also. :(

I was reading today in the paper that he didn't want to take that role unless he had the character look like a bumbling idiot. He was a Jew and his family escaped from Nazi Germany, I think. He lived right accross town from me too! R.I.P. Werner Klemperer.

Let's see, who can play Helga? That is a great show that will always be special to me. I'd luv to someday get all the episodes on video tape!

When i was young Hogan's Heroes was one of those shows that the whole family would sit around and watch. It was a great show, made so by a great cast. Col Klink will be remembered by millions.

Ps did you all know he was a jew and refused to take the role unless he was guaranteed all his fiendish plots would fail?

Valhalla1.......

Hogan's Heros was a 60's sitcom about prisoners in a WWII German Prisoner of war camp. The twist was that the prisoners were actually spies/sabatours that work out of the camp (commanded by a bumbbling Col. Klink).

I'm sure if you do a search........ someone will have a fan site.

Anyone ever see Stalag 17 which is the movie that inspired creation of the Hogan's Heroes series? It was great.

BTW, another name that was thrown around to play Klink in a movie would be John Lithgow. Also, Samuel L. Jackson was my buddy's suggestion to play Kinch. We didn't come up with anyone to play Carter, or General Burkhalter.

POSSIBLE HOGAN'S HEROES SPOILER BELOW!!!

I was told that in the final episode of HH, it was revealed that Col. Klink was a double-agent who was there to make sure that Hogan and his guys would be able to get away with everything that they did. I don't know if there is any truth to this, but I've heard it from multiple sources. It could be a rumor with no basis.
