Don't they both have extremely restrictive DRM and limited activation SecuRom?

That's like saying: "well gee, doesn't air contain some stuff that's not air? why bother breathing?"

I've been reading the super massive SecuRom thread on Atari's forums.

Mass Effect was fun, but short. The main missions were good, but the side missions were a joke. It reminded me of Wing Commander 4, with how well the story was written and portrayed. One of the best stories since the mid 90's. Easily up there with Under a Killing Moon and the later editions of Wing Commander.

I have never played Sacred 2, nor do I even know what it is about, so I can't give you any advice for that one.

Sacred 2 has lasted longer than Mass Effect for me. With Mass Effect, I beat it once, and while I found it very enjoyable I did not play it a second time. The two games are very different, though. Sacred 2 is more like D2 and Mass Effect is like Knights of the Old Republic.

I've not played Sacred 2, just read a review at Gamespot. I would go with Mass Effect.

If this was Mass Effect and Titan Quest (With Expansion), then I would go with TQ all the way.

Mass Effect

But, really, I suggest you to try Titan Quest, I just got it yesterday for very cheap and I must say that it is a real sleeper hit for me, I never expected such good game-play, it's more similar to Diablo II than I would have imagined, and that's certainly a good thing for me, and it's in 3D, oh and the music is good as well.

But, yeah, between Mass Effect and Sacred 2 I would go with Mass Effect, although the little I've played of Sacred 2 might be why I thought it wasn't good, maybe I would have had another opinion if I would have had it longer.

Mass Effect and Titan Quest are great, fun RPGs.

Sacred 2 is alright but nothing special.

You can easily get 30-40 hours out of your first play through Mass Effect if you do most of the side missions. But by then if you're like me you'll be done with it for awhile.

It was well worth playing, and the DRM is actually a good thing (short of no DRM at all) since it lets you play without the DVD in the drive. It will take me at least 5 years to use up the 5 activations (they work like Windows activations, tied to the hardware). If they haven't disabled it by then I'll just need to call EA for install #6.

Doubtful. I finished it in less than 12 on my first play through, doing every side mission I could find and exploring nearly everything. The only quests I know I didn't do were the collection quests.

My second play through was less than 8. There's no way you're going to get 30 to 40 hours out of Mass Effect, unless you walk everywhere and play only in 10 minute intervals every other day.

I don't think you did as much as you think. Did you get the completionist achievement? If you didn't even get that, you didn't even do 75% of the game IIRC. I've played it through 4x now and even skipping dialog and knowing exactly where everything is, it took more than 20 hours without searching for minerals or insignias or whatnot and even then I did only a little over 80% of the quests.

Some ways to check are:
Did you get Garrus and Wrex's quests?
How about the HMS Majesty sidequest or the Cerebrus ones?
Did you do Bring Down The Sky?
Did you get your sub-specialization class for doing the Luna mission?
Did you find the drifting frieghter with the guy on life support/crazy woman?

If you pay attention to the story, take your time with the dialogue and did the sidequests 30-40 hours is reasonable. My second playthrough where I explored everywhere and dod every quest took 40 hours while I spacebar-skipped most of the dialouge.

I just finished my 4th playthrough yesterday and even then I found new parts of the story I've never encountered before. Mass Effect is what I like to think of as acssessiby deep. It is what you make of it. You can rush through and have fun or you could take your time and find an incredible amount to explore.

I know I haven't done everything and talked to everyone. I still dont have the achievement for finding all the codex entries.

You guys liked Titan Quest, but not Sacred 2? Any particular reasons why?

I have Sacred Gold from a Steam compilation pack, but I haven't had time to try it yet. I'm also curious about Sacred 2, because I hear it's also a Diablo-clone like TQ, which I really enjoyed. That game, along with the Immortal Throne expansion and community mods lasted me a good three straight months.

I know. I tried playing Under a Killing Moon again a couple of months back, and I couldn't get it to run smoothly on my computer. (I guess my DOSBox emulation isn't fast enough.) I still have the 4 CD set sitting next to me, just asking me to try again.
