That's like saying: "well gee, doesn't air contain some stuff that's not air? why bother breathing?"

You can easily get 30-40 hours out of your first play through Mass Effect if you do most of the side missions.

Doubtful. I finished it in less than 12 on my first play through, doing every side mission I could find and exploring nearly everything. The only quests I know I didn't do were the collection quests.
My second play through was less than 8. There's no way you're going to get 30 to 40 hours out of Mass Effect, unless you walk everywhere and play only in 10 minute intervals every other day.

Mass Effect was fun, but short. The main missions were good, but the side missions were a joke. It reminded me of Wing Commander 4, with how well the story was written and portrayed. One of the best stories since the mid 90's. Easily up there with Under a Killing Moon and the later editions of Wing Commander.

It was well worth playing, and the DRM is actually a good thing (short of no DRM at all) since it lets you play without the DVD in the drive. It will take me at least 5 years to use up the 5 activations (they work like Windows activations, tied to the hardware). If they haven't disabled it by then I'll just need to call EA for install #6.
