Well I am in the market for a new gas stove. Browsing stoves I keep running across "Sabbath Mode", over and over again. It really is starting to turn me off. What next, "Christ Mode" or "Jihadi Mode"?! Why are oven manufacturers forcing a mode down the throats of the majority of customers that is based on religious fantasies of a minority?

Good god, now I am totally worried that I am going to get one of these "Sabbath Mode" stoves and it will go into "Sabbath Mode" by accident and I won't know to turn it off. I am now searching for Sabbath Mode Free ovens. How am I guaranteed that a stove is Sabbath Mode Free?

This is a common thing. Entire buildings in nyc operate on sabbath mode for elevators, stopping at every floor so you don't have to push a button.

Nothing makes you use it, so why do you care?

I don't want other people's religious fantasies pushed down my throat... ESPECIALLY IN MY OWN FUCKING HOME! It is morally repugnant to me. They might as well slaughter a goat to their god in my living room, it is the same god damn thing.

Can you explain how having an option on a stove that you don't use is the same as performing a ritual animal sacrifice in your living room?

I infrequently set my oven to broil, but I don't view the setting's existence as the equivalent of a chef coming into my apartment and shitting on the carpet.

LOL, don't you have to actually invoke it? Do you get pissed off about features you don't use in other products?

Unless you can't use your stove until the Rabbi approves it your outrage is retarded.

This program I was using the other day had a color blind mode available, but I'm not color blind.

WHY ARE WE SLAVES TO THE COLOR BLIND LOBBY.

Stop being a bigot. This is something done out of consideration for some people which in no way is obtrusive to your way of life. It doesn't read the Talmud out loud. This isn't the frigging Constitution, it's a cooking appliance.

If you provide funds to cover my expenses and provide the necessary items, I can demonstrate the difference between Sabbath mode on an oven and slaughtering a goat in your living room. I guarantee you'll see a difference.

A first world anti-religion problem. :D

If only there were a Black Sabbath mode.

+1000

Also, OP be thankful that these manufacturers are listening to customer feedback, when these things first came out *they used to say 'oy vey!' when you opened the door.

I would react the same with a Islamic mode stove that would not turn on if there were pork in any of the dishes or Hindu mode stove that would not turn on if there meat in any of the dishes.

Reading more on this topic, it appears that this is simply a method for certain religious people to meet the letter of "God's" law while pissing all over the intent of the law.

What is really annoying about it is that the sabbath mode turns off ALL indications that the stove is on while REMAINING on. How is that not a safety hazard to me?

If you don't need sabbath mode why would you turn it on? Or are you not smart enough to operate your stove?

Hello Beavis, my wife does all the oven work in our house. I married my wife for her looks not her brains, she has difficulty operating a toothbrush much less an oven. So yea, there is a great chance she would put it into that mode and burn down the house,,,, killing all of us in the process. You could say that is Darwin at work but I am quite intelligent..... that is why I am attempting to avoid my wife having to work with such a dangerous product.

Apparently not enough to marry a decent looking woman who also has more going on upstairs than a game of ping pong who can operate simple household appliances without the threat of grave bodily injury/property damage.

So all appliances should be designed so that your idiot wife can operate them? Why should the rest of us be oppressed because of stupid people like your wife? Sounds like you married Texashiker........

Wow. Kosher food (K) symbols must drive bshole stark raving. My guess: he probably never realized what they were or why they were there. First World Shut-in Problems.
