Hello Beavis, my wife does all the oven work in our house. I married my wife for her looks not her brains, she has difficulty operating a toothbrush much less an oven. So yea, there is a great chance she would put it into that mode and burn down the house,,,, killing all of us in the process. You could say that is Darwin at work but I am quite intelligent..... that is why I am attempting to avoid my wife having to work with such a dangerous product.

I....just......wait......what? No matter what point you were trying to make here, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that

Regardless of political persuasion the vote seems clear. OP is an idiot.

Man, you sound like quite a catch. She's a lucky woman to have you.

Now eski, please, I am a happily married man. That blatant play for my affections was simply ineffectual. I do thank you for the interest though.

ROFLMFAO

Seriously though, I don't want no kosher stove!

So intelligent you can't do 5 seconds of searching to find out that is does and is sufficiently hard to set that it can't be done accidentally. Your employer is lucky to have you on the job.

This is a terrible parody/sarcasm troll thread, right? Or are people really this stupid? (rhetorical)

I don't know why there are such restrictions during whatever holiday it is. But I assume it is supposed to be some kind of sacrifice or tradition? If you just set everything to automate, so you don't have to push buttons, even if you are technically adhering, doesn't that kind of make the meaning of the whole thing hollow?

I've always found the legalistic ways to avoid the requirements of the sabbath to be ridiculous, but lots of religious rites are ridiculous. So long as they aren't hurting anyone and it works for them, more power to them.

I don't want other people's religious fantasies pushed down my throat... ESPECIALLY IN MY OWN FUCKING HOME! It is morally repugnant to me. They might as well slaughter a goat to their god in my living room, it is the same god damn thing.

well, that's pretty easy.

don't buy the oven.

Stop being a bigot. This is something done out of consideration for some people which in no way is obtrusive to your way of life. It doesn't read the Talmud out loud. This isn't the frigging Constitution, it's a cooking appliance.

Now that would be pretty boss. It would finally give me an opportunity to yell back at my appliances: "Shut it, ya schmuck!"

Though I would certainly be more encouraged to learn some more original yiddish insults, so that the oven understood me.

Wow. Kosher food (K) symbols must drive bshole stark raving. My guess: he probably never realized what they were or why they were there. First World Shut-in Problems.

Damn, I was literally going to post about the kosher symbols but you beat me to it.

bshole, are you trolling or what?

I'm not 100% sure. I thought the topic would be fun for a pre-weekend laugh. I am a little worried that one of my kids would fuck around with the stove and accidentally get it into "sabbath" mode and nobody would realize that it had occured.

I am serious about not wanting the mode for the reason stated above. The rest was kind of embellishment for entertainment purposes. I read my posts and they struck me as uproariously funny. So if they didn't entertain you, at least they entertained me..... so they weren't a total loss.

I would love to see the Wests reaction if stoves came in a Muslim model that automatically shut down if pork was detected in any of the food. I am sure it would sell like hotcakes in other parts of the world. By the way, if they do eventually come out with a stove with this feature.... I want you all to be witnesses that I came up with the idea first, right here on AnandTech. Nobody else should be able to profit from MY idea until I get paid. Maybe this idea could punch my ticket to the elite class. All I need is a pork sensor........

While I find the idea of sabbath mode silly (I don't care for it as an atheist, and it would seem like circumventing a religious decree as a believer but all religions are like that) complaining about the oven having an option is just as silly. :)

If you provide funds to cover my expenses and provide the necessary items, I can demonstrate the difference between Sabbath mode on an oven and slaughtering a goat in your living room. I guarantee you'll see a difference.

I've definitely got a $50 to donate to this cause if for nothing else to watch you sacrifice a goat. Can I call dibs on some lamb chops?

Dude, if you're sincerely worried about your kids fucking around with the stove you've got bigger problems. You need to teach them not to do that whether or not there's a mode for turning it on automatically.

And I kind of doubt there are Muslims anywhere in the world that would line up to buy this hypothetical stove, I hardly expect people want their appliances to enforce dietary restrictions because they're too weak willed to stop themselves from getting the food in the first place. Especially in cultures where the food isn't easy to buy. At the same time, if this were some thing that you had to enable instead of just being always on then I doubt very many people would give a shit.

Besides that, it's not like Sabbath mode is there to prevent the stove from working on Saturday so it's not really comparable...

OMG, this thread is the best laugh I've had all week!

I do agree with the OP though that such things which allow one to experience the benefits whilst nominally preserving one's soul's purity are hogwash. The purpose of the Sabbath is to worship, not to be bone idle. Idle hands are the devil's work - except on the Sabbath, when they're holy, apparently.

Which Black Sabbath song is that last line from again?
