Saab affiliated with GM?

Excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject, ...

I received an invitation to the GM AutoShowInMotion (see same name .com) in Maryland. Of all the vehicles they show, I noticed that a Saab was among them. Was I s'posed to know that?

Mercedes Benz ... Chrysler (Are Dodge *cars* going away?) ... Mabach?
Ford ... Volvo
Toyota ... Lexus
Honda ... Acura
... etc.

GM fully owns Saab and is currently trying to bring the division back to profitability. Not sure how well it's working, as I think Saab lost a stupidely large sum of money in 2002.

OnStar may be a subsidiary of GM, but they also do business with other manufacturers.

My friend was recently hired onto their Audi/VW project team.

Ford owns:
Lincoln, Mercury, Jaguar, Volvo, Landrover, and Aston Marton.
They also have a reasonable investment in Mazda.

Saab rocked before Gm really took over. I used to drive a 2000 9-3, and that was back when GM owned them but they were still using 100% Swedish design. The new one, i'm afraid, looks and feels much more like a GM car.

I think the styling is nice now, its just mechanically they aren't so great. If anything goes wrong, you'll have to bring it to a dealer. A lot of mechanics won't touch the suckers...

Their next step is to diversify the model range... they are bringing out the 9-2 which will be a small, sporty car based on the Subaru Impreza WRX.
Additionally, they are adding an SUV based on the Chevy Trailblazer platform which should boost profits.

Dodge and Mitsubishi tend to cross build cars
GM and Izusu tend to cross build cars (Hombre=S10, Trailblazer=Izusu's new SUV)

VW owns Audi (or is it the other way around?)

iirc, Ford owns Cummins. (an agreement prevents Dodge from going to a full 4 doors from it's current 3/4 doors in exchange for getting to buy the engine)
GM sells transmissions to BMW


The auto industry is hardly "domestic vs. import". Especially given that the new Pontiac GTO is Austrailian.

Wrong.

That platform was a European GM platform from the OPEL Calibra/Vectra/Vauxhall Cavalier of the late 80's, and it licked balls IMHO.

Audi is in a joing shareholding venture with VW and share factories in some countries.
but one doesn't own the other.

DaimlerChrysler is the owner of Mercedes-Benz and Dodge as well as
Chrysler, and Jeep and some others I am not sure of.

I've always thought VAG = Volkswagen AG = Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft ("corporation"), which would make more sense than Volkswagen-Audi Group. What with them being German and all
