Whats the best passive cooling S939 motherboard? I've been reading a lotta probs on the heat issue with the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, and the Abit AN8 SLi seems to have a lot of issues with 04 error code.

Wondering if there was another good choice out there. SLi is not needed....

What do you have in mind?

Do you want a quiet system or are you exploring passive cooling for the challenge involved?

If you want a quiet system I suspect that most NF4 machines can be cooled while generating minimal noise. I found that the NB47J didn't cool the NF4 sufficiently for my taste so I added a fan to blow air over the NB47J -- a low speed (quiet) fan is enough to drop the temperature about 7C, enough to keep me happy.

Similarly, the AMD cooler for the 939 works well and is normally inaudible if you control the fan speed. Automatic fan speed control is included on most NF4 boards so that part is free, other than the effort of setting up the control.

Of course, at high system loading or overclocking and/or high ambient temperatures the fan speeds increase and become audible.

Well, I was looking for a motherboard that was already passively cooled such as the Abit AN8, or ASUS A8N premium (think that was one). I was having a bunch of problem with the Abit, so I was lookin to swap it out and looking for a comparable one that included the passive cooling...

Not looking to mod anything mself persay!

What about this Gigabyte board? I haven't seen much discussion about it (which probably means people aren't having any problems with it 😉 ) and the few reviews I've seen are favorable (not gushing, mind you, but they seem to give the impression of a solid, well-made board offering acceptable performance. See here and here).

Pretty nice - and not a bad price! I might give that a go, since the Abit AN8 is giving me HELL!

Thx!
