Ah, it's not a huge deal. Nothing like the time I let a customer meet me at my house one weekend to pick up an order ;)

Any chance you guys ship to Canada vis US Postal, so I don't get dinged with brokerage fees with courier-type service?

I'll second that! I placed my preorder with you guys, but UPS and FedEx have always nailed me with brokerage fees - FedEx is not so bad, but UPS charges are absolutely ridiculous and have often exceeded the value of the goods for me. If you could ship mine USPS as well I'd really appreciate it.

I would urge you to make USPS your default service for Canadian customers. If it is worse for you, I'd be willing to pay a few dollars extra since I know I will save more than that on brokerage fees anyway. If you did that I'd probably buy just about all my computer stuff from you. :)

I've been thinking about offering USPS right on the website... the issue is a logistics thing. We started by only offering UPS, but it seems 90% of people prefer FedEx, so we started offering that as well.

There are 2 problems with offering multiple shipping options. First, it just adds to the difficulty of keeping everything straight, arranging pickups, and getting stuff on the right trucks at the right time. More importantly though, if we could stick to one carrier, our volume would make us eligible for discounts, which would allow us to charge a lot less on shipping. By splitting things up between 2-3 different places, it's a lot harder to hit the volume to get any major discounts. So it's like we either have good shipping prices but no selection, or good selection and high shipping prices. I'm still trying to get a feel for which is the better option.

I'm going to toy around with the USPS option this week, we'll see if I can get it up and running. In the meantime, drop us an e-mail and give us your order # and let us know you want USPS, and we'll get that sorted out!

Thanks! I did. You should have an e-mail from me.

To be honest, I would ditch UPS and offer FedEx or USPS, or straight-up USPS. UPS is absolutely terrible up here in Canada, for instance, in Toronto (the biggest city, about 4 million people) they have TWO pickup locations. I also hear lots of reports about broken or missing shipments from Americans using UPS.

I'm not in business or anything, but that's just my experience. I also know that all the packages I've received from USPS or FedEx have arrived in good condition, but the few that came from UPS looked like they'd been beaten on. It's a good thing the people sending them overpacked or they'd have been DOA for sure.

Good job on these responses and having a presence in the community, BTW. It's not in vain - I bought DFI partly because you can talk to real DFI techs on their forums, I bought OCZ partly because you can talk to real OCZ reps on many forums, and I ordered from you purely because you are readily available here. All the online stores that have Opterons seem to be bit-players and are unknown to me, but I'll take one who posts on AT over one who doesn't any day.

Tankguys - when are you going to ship to the UK so we can abuse the great prices? :(

I might have to pick up a 939 Opteron for my next rig if I dont have the cash/reason to go X2 or M2.

We can ship to the UK. Just PM me with your address, and I could give you an estimate.

The problems though, are 2 fold:

1.) International shipping for us vendors is a royal pain... it requires a ridiculous amount of paperwork, so we do have to charge a small processing fee for all of that.
2.) Taxes/Import duties are tricky, so just realize you may get nailed on delivery!

We typically ship to Canada for no extra fee since it's not as complicated, but anywhere else we generally do a $5 fee or so. Nothing major, but enough to cover the headache :)

Ordered from Sidewinder twice without being charged for Tax, Import or even Vendor Handling charges so when the time comes, my luck might be in. Miracles may happen. Delivery costs are high so It might be best just to get CPU/RAM over there and the bulky stuff from here.

At the moment, Im happy with my current PC and sitting out, earning money, seeing how the market is going and whilst doing so, keeping up with where I can get things from.

Very pleased that, what seems like a reliable US supplier delivers to the UK too.

Ah yes, I see it. Glad we could get that sorted out for you. Now I just have to figure out why I'm having problems with our Amex processing code and we'll be in good shape!! I tell you, it's always something :)

I wish I could help you out Ben, but CC ecommerce transactions are not my forte.

Weren't TankGuys slow to get the X2 chips? I was going to order my X2 4400+ from them but went with Monarch in the end. I'm pretty sure I had my chip for weeks before the TG orders started to roll out. I'm really keen on one of these Opterons but rather than pre-order I'm just keeping an eye on companies like Sparco.com, whose reported stock levels are tied directly to the distributors (usually Ingram Micro).

I've got 3 Opteron 144's on preorder with Tankguys too. Good company to deal with.

We are using the processors to expand our CFD cluster to help design next-generation unmanned air vehicles for the Army and hypersonic munitions for the Navy. I think I should get priority over these folks that just want the 144 to overclock so they can get a better 3Dmark score ;)

Haven't you just breached clause 17.3 of your employment contract? You know, the bit about confidentially? :D

Most nForce4 boards should be able to support these, and maybe some nForce3, but that is yet to be confirmed.

How are the 939 Opterons different from the A64s? Is it registered memory support? Does it add anything for the desktop user?

None of our DoD contracts are subject to confidentiality agreements. Even if they were, saying 'we do CFD simulations for the Army' wouldn't be a breach. Lockheed isn't breaching their confidentiality agreements when they say on their website 'we make fighter jets for Air Force'.

How about 512K more of L2 cache?
