They are around, I've seen a few isolated people get ahold of them. We're doing a pre-order on the 144/146's and they've been moving like mad.

Part of the problem is that they have been announced, but are *very* rare right now. We snatched up the first batch of them comming out of TechData (a large distributor) and they aren't even listed at some of the other distributors yet. They will start to be more common in a month or two, but for now, you're stuck either pre-ordering from somewhere, or searching and getting lucky enough to find them in stock somewhere.

Thanks Ben,

I guess we have to be patient and wait awhile.

Just got my 939 146... cant say where I got it, but it's a good one, same exact stepping as many FX-57's.

Havn't overclocked it yet, but I'm hoping for at least 3ghz.

The latest rumor is...

"The original Opterons coming out were CABNE chips, while the newer ones seem to be CABGE chips. CABNE is the same silicon/manufacturing line as the FX57's. In other words, they are FX57 cores. CABGE is the same silicon/manufacturing line as the 3700+/4000+ cores, and will probably not clock nearly as well."

I'll still be happy if the 144 I preordered can hit 3700+/4000+ (2.2/2.4Ghz respectively). Especially considering the price. CABNE or CABGE, it's similar pricing compared to a 3000+ retail with double the cache. I can't complain.

TankGuyz, when will the S939 Dualcore Opteron's hit the shelves? I know they're out there.

tank guys do you accept MO preorders????

Unfortunately, our system is only configured to take Credit Card payments. We do this because we have extensive security features this way, and it significantly reduces our fraud liability. Due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of customers choose to use cards anyway, accepting other forms of payment is not quite worth the increased risk. However, if you at least have a card to use during checkout, you can specify in the comments that you'd like to pay by another method. If you then mail us the payment right away, we'd have to cash it immediately to verify, then we could cancel the credit authorization. So ultimately I'm willing to take a different payment form, but the funds must clear before we would ship.

hope they can get hold of it fast....

Me too :) My distributor is saying 10/23 right now, but that's a pretty worthless estimate. All it tells me is that they are indeed on the way, but I've learned to put no stock in the date they give!

Good question. These aren't even listed as being on order by our distributors, and thus don't even have a basic ETA. So I have no idea. I imagine it won't be long, but I wouldn't begin to guess.

Tankguys - when are you going to ship to the UK so we can abuse the great prices? :(

I might have to pick up a 939 Opteron for my next rig if I dont have the cash/reason to go X2 or M2.

We can ship to the UK. Just PM me with your address, and I could give you an estimate.

The problems though, are 2 fold:

1.) International shipping for us vendors is a royal pain... it requires a ridiculous amount of paperwork, so we do have to charge a small processing fee for all of that.
2.) Taxes/Import duties are tricky, so just realize you may get nailed on delivery!

We typically ship to Canada for no extra fee since it's not as complicated, but anywhere else we generally do a $5 fee or so. Nothing major, but enough to cover the headache :)

TankGuys. You should be the official pc parts store for Anandtech. I'm pretty sure my next part which will be a dual core opteron s939 will be coming from you.

Paul, you might just be the best customer in the history of the world. If you were an SI swimsuit model, I think that'd just about do it :)

@MBrown:

Thanks for the comment! Though in fairness, there are plenty of other great vendors out there, some of whom post here as well to a productive end, so they deserve some love too ;)

Any chance you guys ship to Canada vis US Postal, so I don't get dinged with brokerage fees with courier-type service?

Hmmm... we really don't like to do USPS, because it involves a bit of extra work for us, but I might consider an exception. If you have an existing order, just e-mail us with the order # and the request. If you place an order later, put that in the comments section of the order.

By the way, I changed my order from the 144 to the 146 for the 10x multi... My ram does DDR600 at 2.5-3-3-0, sp it should be rather sweet. I am planning on a review between this Opti, a Winnie and an X2. Should be interesting. And 2 of the 3 chips came from Tankguys! Great place! Great people!

I totally understand your reasoning with this. But, wow, what flexibility. Never seen that with the other e-tailers. I will defintately pre-order one now. Thanks Ben!
