any specific reason you ordered now and didn't wait for the x2 price drops?

First off, I was wrong. Didn't mention it here in Hot Deals, mentioned it in CPUs.

Regarding not waiting to purchase it... I thought the deal was pretty good anyways, plus my thought is that the later price drop is for dual core while I just wanted a cheaper CPU because I have a spare board sans CPU. I already have various HSFs so no biggie for OEM. Even next month when presumably x2 chips are $150-169, I'd still go for an under $90 CPU. Sure, twice the cores, but still almost twice the price.

BTW I actually ordered two CPUs. Second CPU was a Sempron 64 2800+ OEM for $44. Will be really nice in my spare Biostar Tforce6100 board that I got refurb for $40. Shipping for both was just over $9. Also both cores seem to be E6, if eWiz's info on their site is correct.

Tempting, i'm still on the S754 2800+

(I laugh at those who said s754 would never last, technically it's going to outlast 939!)

Yeah, those people are kinda irritating whenever someone asks for budget recommendations, they're like, "get socket 939 because socket 754 is so dead." WTF is so dead about it? Lack of dual channel is only 5% performance difference on average. Lack of dual core? Single core CPUs will still be made and have software support for a very long time and I don't think EVERYBODY multitasks like crazy with running folding on one core while encoding video on another... having a half dozen web browser windows open while listening to MP3 music and typing up a report is NOT heavy duty multitasking.

EDIT: Well, though socket 754 is far from dead, IMO the argument over budget components is now dead because someone can get a cheap $75 overclockable socket AM2 board with a $75 socket AM2 Sempron, and have a direct upgrade path all the way to the Athlon FX chips. Now that's value.

Even better value is looking forward to Fry's having socket AM2 Sempron deals with motherboard for $100. 😀

For those who have a heatsink lying around (many of us) and those who overclock (many of us) those 2 things make no difference

I considering this for a temporary upgrade to my aging 2500+ Barton system. Since I'll be completely overhauling my system in a few months this would tide me over well (and then work very nicely in an HTPC rig.)

The price is getting so low it is making me SICK

it's making you sick? I am kicking my self for spending 150$ on a 3200+ not that long ago...

put the past in your behind and just think about the next thing you'll kick yourself for and give yourself something to look forward to. my 754 3200+ clawhammer cost me $100 (stable @5x). it's x64 ready ~ all i need.

Damn, this makes me ill feeling thinking about how much I spent.

🙁

I'm in the market for a 3200 s939 though, I'll have to check back at the end of the month and see how low they go.

You can get a socket 939 3500+ for $88.

FIXED 😀 Check my thread for a RETAIL Sempron 2800+ AM@ for only $36 + shipping = ~40 shipped 😉

I did and I ordered two, you b@stard! Look what you made me do! 😉

That makes... FOUR CPUs that I've ordered this week. WTF am I going to do with all those?

There's enough of me to go around. 😀

Let's find a cheap motherboard and some cheap pc3200 ram deals to match up with the cpu price drops.

S939 mobo prices should drop significantly once AM2 has established production demands.

:| UPS delivered to my condo office because I wasn't home, which is normal and fine... but the condo office closed early for the weekend before I got home. Grrrr!!!

every year someone says the same thing...

"This sounds like a good deal for a spare *insert last years' cpu/socket here* mobo for a file server!"

I remember that same quote with 486, pentium I, II, III, IV, etc... you get the picture

I sold a 3500+ for $230 on eBay less than 2 months ago. 😀 (Granted it was an FX-53 stepping one)
