S478 P4 2.6ghz showing 1.3ghz?

I put a build back together with a S478 P4 2.6. When I boot up, it's registering as 100fsbx1.3. Windows shows a P4 CPU 2.60ghz, then below 1.30Ghz.

MB is a Epox 4pEA+ retail. Never had this problem before. Wondering if theres possibly a jumper pin that may have fallen off that would effect this. Default settings on bios. The multiplier seems half of hat it should be. Any hints?

Have two sticks of Corsair XMS PC3500 DDR BH-5's. Both default to 100FSB. Forcing to 200FSB and the PC doesn't post. The board supports 400/533 system bus. Theres no 2.6 w/ 800 system bus is there? Could this cause what's happening? Maybe the CPU's got switched.

That sounds like the cause, using an 800 FSB CPU with a 400 FSB motherboard.

Someone else should be able to suggest a CPU ID program (CPUID? 🙂 ) that can give you the exact P4 type to look up at intel.com

There is a SL6WH which is a 2.6@800fsb northwood core processor. So chances are the processor you used to have in the board has been switched with that. Bios settings can't really fix this. You will want to either run the setup as is underclocked (maybe at 533fsb if it will work), find the original processor, or get a board that supports 800fsb.

switch out the board or try chaning ram stick slots

in my opinion, the GHz make a difference, however, if you can let the computer function at 1.3GHz without the hiccups, then don't break your bank to get a new motherboard yet.

or just trade processors with someone
