I saw the specs on it this morning, it seems pretty solid. If they priced it at $350-400 outright and gave it away for free with commitments it'd be a great phone for people switching from feature phones.

When the hell did a 4.3" screen become "Mini"?
It's narrower, thinner, and way lighter than the 3.5" iPhone 3GS... Or the Incredible 2, which is the last relevant 4" Android I can think of.

It's almost smaller in all dimensions (2mm taller) than the original Galaxy S, and again lighter.

"Poor spec" would be an understatement for this thing. 8 GB? I thought that's about the size of Android 4.2.2 + TouchWiz ROM.

I suppose this phone's target audience is different from the S4, but I don't think it will help Samsung in the long run if Samsung keeps this on. Their tablet line-up is horrendous as it is. (except for the N10 which isn't technically Samsung's)

Though the S4 Active looks quite attractive.

I'm not sure how you came up with that. It's got better spec than the SGS3 so I think that is fine. The 8GB is strange though. Even the SGS2 had more than that. but an MMC is pretty cheap so whatever.

Their are really terrible though. It's like they aren't even trying. All they had to do was take a Nexus 10. Make it blue or white and sell it as the Galaxy Tab 3, but no they recycle the crap as the 1st and 2nd galaxy tabs.

I really, really don't want to buy a new phone but I'm very tempted by that.

I'll have to go into hyper critical mode and blow up every little downside of it.

You mean the Tab line, I guess. The Note 8 and 10.1 may be the best Android tablets at the moment.

Samsung is trying to cover every dimension possible like they do with their tablets.
HTC One has its own mini in the M4. I think both manufacturers - and some others, as well - understand that 4.3" is a size that fits what many consumers want. Plenty of people like larger and phablet sizes, too, which is why the Note line does pretty well.
I would like to see more 4.5" display phones as well, though.

I think the sub 4" market is pretty much done at the mid and high end. Even Apple has decided that all their iPhones and Touches need to be 4.0" and above.

Moto has the RAZR M.

what is your definition of mini? 4"?

At this point, probably. Happy enough with my 3.8" screen, I wish Nokia would release a topflight Lumia with a 4" screen, for example (928 in a smaller package, I would love that).

If I wanted a flagship phone with a puny screen, I would get an iPhone 5.

qHD screen...meh. The HTC M4 is rumored to have 720p at the same size. I imagine that will be the "mini" phone to buy.

removable battery?

I didn't see mention of whether it was built-in or removable.

This looks to be as close to a modern version of my Evo4G as I'm gonna get, so it's appealing to me, but I sometimes use my phone for 4-6 hours straight and like to have a spare battery in case I don't end up right next to a charger.

It gets tough as flagship phones push towards 5". At 5" there will be those who want 4.5" or 4.3". There still remains the crowd who wants 4" or possibly smaller. It's almost a necessity to have 3 separate lines at that point. I can imagine a 4.7" phone asking for a 4" mini because 4.3" is too close and offers little difference.

I think 4.3" is small enough for most people as long as you work towards no bezel. Heck the SGS2 is still a great sized phone despite its bezel.

If I wanted a nice 4.3" phone with a qhd display, I would get the HTC One S.
That phone can be easily had for $200 on CL.
I can still use that phone now and still wouldn't miss much from the higher end phones now.

RAZR M has same screen size and body is much smaller. Also much better battery.

I think its faster too, lemme check.

Nope, I was wrong. Same specs except RAZR M is smaller and has a much bigger battery.

I'm getting this! I was so impressed with my friends SIII mini and I said that once S4 mini comes out, I would get myself one. I am not realy a fan of big screen mobiles so this mini versions are my choice.

Actually, 4.3 inches is HUGE but we are so accustomed to it we dont notice any more.

Those of use who went from .75" on our black & white Nokia up through modern smartphones might still remember.

Girlfriend has the S3 Mini and it's a really nice phone. I'm thinking of getting this one for the 4G.

It's amazing that the Galaxy S4 Mini has 4G LTE.

That is excellent for a budget smartphone. I also heard it's very smooth and responsive.
