Okay, I'm trying to figure out what video adapter is going to be better for the Intel Pentium 233 MMX I have. I'm leaning towards the ATI card just to the fact that it is not onboard like the S3 adapter. Can anyone make any suggestions for me? The display is being ran in 1024x768 and both cards are 2 MB.

I used that exact same card for a while no problem I liked it seemed to do fine, just don't put a background on your desktop or you will have some pretty big slowdowns whenever you exit a program

Yeah, that's the only part that sucks about it. So ATI then?

Yea or spend like $50 for a new cheap one I mean what are you going to be doing with it, is it just gonna site there? It will be fine for word processing and all and even like the old C&C but other than than that it would have a seasure hehe, I am just using a voodoo 3 pci in my server. SO between the ATI and the S3 do ATI and get the latest drivers and you are set

Right now it's only going to be used for surfing AT and AIM. I can't really do too much with Photoshop, but I figured I'd still upload pictures from my A40. I should be building a new computer in a couple months, so I'm not really crazy about sinking too much money into this one if it's going back into storage.

They're both 2MB video, neither one is even remotely fast enough for gaming, and most likely the onboard S3 has it's own memory onboard, not shared memory... doesn't make much difference at all, except, one may look crisper due to the quality of the filtering components... try 'em both, pick the one that "looks" better.

I concur .... I once went from an ATI pre-Rage card to the S3 Trio64+, and soon upgraded to the ATI RageII. The image quality on the S3 was terrible compared to the ATI cards of the day. Of course, a lot of this will depend on your monitor (I had a fairly high-end for the time), but the S3 was wholly unsatisfying in my case.
