Jim Hafner-Eaton of S3 declared that his company does not plan to add any new features to the drivers Savage2000 and Savage4. Work on drivers is confined to introduction of support of new OS and minor improvements. Work on the driver Savage3 has also been suspended.

no surprise there since they dont have any decent software guys left at S3, and diamond couldnt compile a decent driver if the code was handed to them in 100% finished form

Oh yes, where does he declare this? And, please dont say The Register

Hahah s3, their driver supoort is horrbile. I mean that's what alot of people on the net was saying, including people who reviewd their cards in online articles. You would think they would try to learn from it, but instead tyhey didn't. I think they were trying to catch up to fast. I think they should have focused on one specific card and stuck with it, in terms of design, production, marketing and more importantly....SUPPORT.

Thats ok becuase Inno3D who also make a 64 Meg Savage 2000 card will continue driver development. Also S3 is no longer in charge of drivers for graphics cards, Via is so they may choose to continue development in the S3 sector.

Heh, you wish. S3 turned it's graphics division over to it's subsidiary, Via who will most likely develope a new chipset for Diamind MM to produce within a year.

And like I said Inno3D will continue Savage2000 driver development for it's 64 Meg Savage2000 which work fine on the Viper II.

Yeah its been around for awhile, jim hafner-eaton said he was gonna stay at s3 after the graphics part was sold off to via, so s3/diamondmm will no longer make the reference drivers, that will all be taken over by VIA/S3 there joint venture, but i suspect that since VIA has some new chipsets it plans to sell with the savage4 integrated will result in much further driver development with maybe even a s2000 built in on board

Ive had enough trouble with my savage4, no point stickin around with it once the Radeons and GeforceMXs come out

My CL Savage4 Pro 32 Meg PCI was actualy a pretty good card. I never had any of the problems that most people claim to have had.

It played every game that I had, except for Tribes.

Hardware is probably quoting someone who told him that they saw something on the message boards at Savage Daily News. http://sdn.fgn.com
Jim Hafner-Eaton, the head of tech support, gives updates on the driver updates and takes recommendations for bug fixes from people on that message board.
Someone might want to go check and see if that is actually true.

Relax y'all. The drivers don't lack any features and don't require any NEW ones. Much ado about squat.

Oh they don't do they? Howabout a working TnL engine? Howabout full utilization of the on board 32 meg instead of just 24? Howabout a working FSAA engine?

All three of these things WERE on the spec sheet and promished with the card, but we haven't seen them yet.

Know who should take command of the driver situation? Metalabs...don't they make WickedGL (or whatever the name is) drivers for 3dfx?

Or...

Inno3d will prolly take over.

Hardware gets his rumors from message boards.

Funny that he doesn't post the rumors that aren't in nVidia's favor. Just anti-nVidia's competition.

I'm still curious to his extreme dislike towards nvidia's competition.

Wingznut:

Are you familiar with Freud, specifically one of his hypotheses which dealt with a certain type of "envy"?

Well, I think Hardware has it, only it's for non-nVidia graphics chips instead ... ;)

Scarey. Diamonds Driver sucked, S3's drivers sucked, and we ALL know VIA's drivers suck. I guess it should stand as it is, pass the SUCK off to the NEXT suck company. I doubt driver support will be any better with VIA in control of the Video.

BTW VIA, WTF is my Working Win2k drivers for my Athlon?
