Guy died, and it does have a roll bar over each seat. The still picture is of the same car. You can see the car resting on the roll bars in the lower pictures.

I much prefer stoplight to stoplight races. You can actually see who wins, and you don't risk crap like this. How else do you match your car up against another, when it only excels at "the twisties"? How many boy racers actually compete on a track, VS stoplight to stoplight racers?

not a lot of these people know how to drive their own car... only relying on magazine reviews that say it handles well... and since everyone is now out to get a RWD car to go 'drifting' at mountain passes... i could only imagine what comes next. :( i honestly have not experienced a sports car on the limits of adhesion around a track just yet... which also means i shouldn't be doing something like that if i ever had the car. :(

That's what some cams, headers, and exhaust work can do! :)

Perhaps hes running forced induction, turbo, has upgraded injectors, and the idle sounds like that or else there'd be too much fuel sprayed into the cylinders at idle.

Oh, and the link to the original vid is out of bandwidth.

edit: on second thought, probably has a lot nmore to do with his cam setup

its naturally aspirated.

Have you ever raced somebody, even if it's only up to the lehgal speed limit, from a stoplight? Happens all the time around here, and it's certainly not as dangerous as road racing. How can you tell who's winning in that kind of race anyway? Is simply staying with the other guy good enough? Short of doing it on a track, I don't see how you'd prove you're the better driver, or have the better car. In a straight line race, it's pretty obvious.

For example, on all the 'tuner forums' the only kills they talk about are straight races, never twisties.

if you'll notice the guy doesn't know how to drive on curves....he hits his brakes in the middle of the curve....which is a big NO-NO
and thus caused himself to fish tail off the hill
(and ive seen this posted on s2000 sites a long time ago i don't think someone died in that but i could be wrong)

and stop light to stop light racing is also dangerous.....the funny thing is there is an unsaid rule that ive seen from some people that red light race in dfw area......you don't go when the light turns green you look both ways and make sure no one is running the light then go......(which happens often)

and there are a decent amount of people that do track/autox events......go to your next SCCA autox and tell me there aren't tons of people there

i don't think racing in the twisties is very common....im at school in colorado now and we have twisties and i don't see people doing this.....like i've seen red light racing in dallas area

Most people NEVER even go to a track, let alone compete at one. Most competition is done during the commute to or from work. It is dangerous, but it does happen... ALL THE TIME. You don't even have to excede the speed limit. Just a simple quick launch is usually all it takes. The point is, 'handling' cars rarely get to show their stuff. Grunt-mobiles do it all the time.

Well the stop light to stop light thing happens here too... but that kind of racing around corners isn't as big just yet... if theyre trying to copy initial d like they do in japan... well basically if you can put a gap between yourself and the guy behind you then you win... if you're the one behind and the guy in front of you can't lose you... then you guys swap places next time around until someone opens up a gap...OR if for some reason... you are a god of car control and you are able to pull off a pass then you automatically win... its not as simple as drag racing like you said which is more straightforward... and honestly... seeing as how some of these guys drive around me on freeways... i dont think they should be in cars at all. :D

even if you don't own one if a friend has one see if they'll let u autox it or take it to a track day

or if not go to a track day or autox event talk to people....most people are really nice......someone might even let you drive their car around once or so....(ive had subaru friends that go to autox's alot and make friends with people and get to drive Rx-7s and all other manner of cars)

well my friends that do let me drive their car to some sort of a track day basically drives more or less the same POS as me... :D a 13+ year old sedan... not much fun... any more bodyroll and the car would be vertical... :Q ... going to those karting places like Dromo1 just results in me having my @$$ handed back to me by regulars that go there every week... :( my friends that do have nice cars... G35s, Supras, IS300s well theyre spoiled brats... :p ...and just go with the flow of the bandwagon... im halfway there with whatever car i end up with though. :)
