Hello, I Need some advice here.

So I want to get a S2000 Hardtop for my car it’s a 2001. I checked around and the dealerships say they have been discontinued and are unavailable. I would like the OEM one. While poking around on the Internet I found www.hardtopguy.com I have sent a few emails and they say their guarantee that their OEM hardtop will work with my year make and model. I am a little hesitant because of the price $3250. Been saving for one since I got the car 9 years ago....heh.

Anyone here ever dealt with him, I just want to make sure he is trustworthy. I am going to do the install myself as the dealership wants $850 and it's to far away from this guy to have him do it. Looking at the directions it looks pretty simple.

Thanks

Can you find a used OEM hardtop on a forum somewhere? It might be better to find one of those and have it painted to match your car, especially if you can find one that's already the right color or is local.

Find a used one. Think I've read they still go for around $2k used but that is a lot better than $3200. And lol at the dealership wanting you to pay $850 to install one. Is there a lot to installing one on a s2000? The miata tops take all of 2 mins to install or remove.

I did some looking for a few weeks; all I could come up with was 2002+ year hardtops which supposedly don’t work on my model year. I found a guy who wanted $3500 and was local and was all excited till I found out he had a 2006. :-/ Looks like I might have waited too long.

I ordered from him about 4 years ago and got my hardtop without any problems. Recently, his reputation has suffered a bit on s2ki.com due to his lack of communication with customers. I would still order from him, however, but would probably call instead of just placing the order online. He's much better with customer service over the phone than via email.

Definitely do the install yourself. It's not very difficult at all and you can find a good DIY guide on s2ki.com as well. PM if you have any specific questions.

i would recommend going with a mugen hardtop not cause of the brand, but because the rear window is larger.

I've heard enough bad stuff on S2ki to not want to order anything from him.

Keep an eye on the FS forum on S2ki.com. I know there's a silver Mugen-style hardtop for sale in the Bay Area right now.

Keep in mind that hardtops creak and groan, plus they resonate and hold in all the mechanical noise. I can think of a bajillion ways I'd rather spend that kind of money.
