I bought a Seasonic S12-380W from svc and when I hook everything up in my comp, it won't power up. When I hit the power button it sounds like something is being shorted. So I tried only connecting the 20 pin and 4 pin atx connectors to my motherboard and it still did not power up. Next, I grabbed an old 300W power supply and connected the 20 and 4 pin connectors and hit the power and everything turned on! So I thought ok maybe its the power supply. Well I then tried the old paper clip in the 20 pin connector and plugged it in and the power supply fan began to spin... After some research, I found This article. Do you think my system isn't using enough power? What should I do?
Specs:
AMD 3700+ San Diego
ASrock 939Dual-VSTA motherboard
2x512 crucial ballistix
NVidia 5600 Ultra
1 samsung spinpoint 250g SATA
1 liteon DVD-+R/RW
2 fans both connected using molex

Are you sure you connected the case 2 mobo wires correctly? It also sounds like you have a short in the case. Take everything out of the case, put it on a table and try to turn on the system from there.

Well if the old 300W works then the Seasonic 380 will definitely have enough power, and you clearly know how to hook it up correctly, so it sounds like you might have a dud. Just because the fan spins it doesn't mean the rest of the unit is working properly.

It sounds like this;)
Im gonna email seasonic and see if I can get a replacement.
I really like how silent this thing is though. When the fan started spinning I almost shat myself. I could barely hear it when it was close to my ear!

Does that motherboard require a -5V line? The PSU might be the ATX 2.0 spec (IIRC, I believe that is the spec), and it no longer has the -5V line on the 24p connector...

Try seeing if you can remove all the components and then add just the ones you need. The other night I wanted to find out if my Seasonic was giving me fits too so I threw in this OLD school like 200w PSU and it powered my A8N32-SLI Deluxe, my Athlon 4400+, and one DVDRW drive. I just wanted to see if I could run Memtest and check a few things but sure enough it powered on and no problems were found. So try seeing if you can run just the bare essentials and if you can, try adding each hardware component piece by piece until you find what is causing your problems. Also it would help if you could take the case out of the case and put it onto an anti-static bag (preferably the one that the mobo came in).
