S-Video to TV Question

To anyone who can help,

I recently purchased a 9500 pro with S-video tv-out. I connected this to my TV using high quality cables from Monster Cable. The picture does show but there is this constantly rolling line, that scrolls up the screen when the pc is connected to the TV. I have eliminated it being the TV as I have connected different Tv's to it and I get the same effect. I have also noticed this same thing in the past with other video cards. For an example of what this looks like, think of the last time you have been watching say a news program, and on the TV they have a computer monitor in the background and on the computer monitor you see a line scrolling up the monitor. It looks just like that...What causes this and how do I get rid of it????

it has something to do with the refresh rate on your monitor or something with the frame rate. I read this once a while back on another video card forum.

Its been a long time since I took a comm course, but I am pretty sure its due to the frequency generated by the TV refresh rate mixing with the video cards output signal rate. By mixing two signals of different frequencies, you generate a low frequency signal (f1-f2) as well as a high frequency signal (f1+f2). Its the low frequency signal you are seeing as the slowly scrolling line. Someone who works in comm or is fresh out of school can give you a better explanation. Not sure you have control over your cards output refresh rate, but if you do you could change it to see how it affects your scrolling. Good science experiment! The bad news is I think you will be stuck with it no matter what.....

I think i know the fix for this. Is it a horizontal line that moves up the TV? If so, unplug your cable TV cable from your Coax Jack on your TV. I had the same problem with my Svideo out, it was getting interference from the cable TV signal, unplugged it and it went away.

Guitar you are a friggin genious..It was just like you said. That line was so damn annoying especially when you are trying to watch movies coming fom your PC on your TV. I am sure there has to be lots of folks out there who have that same problem but don't know how to fix it. Thanks again dude. Also thanks again for everyone who responded to this thread.

VERY HAPPY

Perhaps better insulated cables would help. It would be pain if you had to keep dis/reconnecting the cable. At worst, perhaps a A-B switcher could be used on the coax line to make it easy to momentarily disconnect it.

What I did to fix the issue was to run the coax coming from the wall into a surge protector then run a coax from the surge into the TV. The surge must have some kind of signal filtering built into it. Once I did that the PC shows with no lines and I can watch cable without having to swap out cables. IF anyone wants to know the brand of surge protector I have let me know. I hope and bet this thread will help out a crap load of people!!!

yea, it took me literally months to figure it out. I thought it was my TV, then my video card. I mean i tried EVERYTHING. I switched TVs...and it would work for a while then the line would come back (probably because i plugged the cable in).

Anyway, im glad to help you guys....Also, yea i'd like to know what kind of surge protector you have (I've never seen one w/ a coax input).

I have an A-B box somwhere around here too, ill get it out and test it.
