Ionizer86, I don't think Callcct.com's "S video to 2xRCA" offers the same functionality as the original poster's "S-Video to RCA Adapter" since Callcct's cable splits the Svideo to TWO rca cables, not one. Not exactly sure of the purpose of this, but perhaps it's to allow one to use dual RCA cables to extend Svideo cables with no loss of signal. Anyway, I don't think Callcct's cable is meant to be a SVideo to RCA converter. But thanks for the site!

This place (callcct.com, not cablesamerica.com) has good quality Python brand component video cables for $11.00 each (6 foot), with free shipping.

I think computer equipment come with 7 pin video out ports that look like 4 pin svideo ports because the same port is used for both svideo and rca out, hence the extra pins. So if you needed svideo out, you can plug a 4 pin svideo cable right in. But if you needed rca out, you'll need to use the 7 pin male to rca female adapter cable first, which is usually included with the equipment.

Bought two svhs-to-rca adapters from CentralSatellite.com (link) for 2.59 each. No minimum and shipping was about $5.

I need to output a movie from my T40 (Svideo) to a tv that only has inputs for RCA. The svideo out has 4 pins (ATI card). It seems to me that this link, posted above, is the best all in one solution to get video and sound outputted to the tv. What am i missing here that makes this not the best option? Am I sacrificing picture quality in some way using this method? thanks

Composite video is lower quality than s-video, so you are degrading picture quality but it sounds like you don't really have any other option.

They also have S-Video to RCA Adapters for $3.05.

I looked all around locally to find a cable or adapter. CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, and a couple small computer shops didn't have one. I find it amazing since most older and cheaper TV sets (at least the Daewoo's and Magnavox TV's I own) don't have a S-Video jack. I'd think it would be a common cable since most 3D cards have a S-Video out. I did find that $3.05 adapter at Radio Shack for $20!

I also needed a long length of Cat 5e cable, so I ordered 75ft CAT5e 350Mhz PATCH CABLE BLUE for $14.38. While this isn't the best price I found on this kind of cable, the price was still good and was cheaper than if I ordered from somewhere else after another initial shipping charge was added. It was also a LOT cheaper than CompUSA who sells 50' of Belkin Cat5e for something crazy like $50 and Home Depot that sells Cat5e for 21cents a foot without the ends.

I don't quite remember what the shipping was, but I think it was about $7. Also there is a minimum order of $20 which kind of messes things up if you just want the S-Video cable or adapter. I'm not sure if you call them if they would waive that.

The shipping was quick. I ordered on Friday and got it on Tuesday. The cables seem to be nice quality and are made by Cables to Go. Unfortunately I had a couple year old CompUSA power supply die on me and I haven't had a chance to give them a try out.

One thing I am confused about is the difference between this cable and the one I purchased.

S-Video has the same bandwith and resolution as those "RCA" signals.
Many people believe it is a better "standard", but it is not.
They only split up two (quite distinctive) signals, and these (uni-directional) cables simply mix them together again via a small capacitor and maybe a resistor.

S-Cideo only makes (a very little) sense if you have cable lenght beyond 5 to 10 meters. Some good "RCA" cables are actually better (have less capacity/losses) than cheapo S-Video cables.

But the "Bi-Directional", the Y/C signal separation circuitry of this thing makes it interesting. Though probably hardly anybody would need that, it might be useful for recording "RCA" type outputs of older VCR's to S-Video input ATI cards.

*BUT* for that, this Bi-Directional cable is simply too cheap.
For a good S-Video output you would need an active circuitry to separate the two signals out of the "RCA" again. This cable does not mention any power supply, so it is probably not the right thing at all.

Simply put:
S-Video to RCA = very simple.
RCA to S-Video = complicated and needs powered circuitry.

Any idea where the cheapest place would be for a Dell Latitude CPx s-video to RCA adapter/cable would be? I believe the s-video port on the side has 7 pins.
