S-VHS = S-Video, right?

Nope. S-video is the format of a video signal, whereas s-vhs is supervhs I believe, and is a higher quality VHS standard. it came out some years ago and seemed like a very stupid idea. Well, it was. Nobody used it.

hhhmmm... so if a TV has S-VHS, doesnt mean it uses S-Video, right? Damn.... stupid Sony TV(KV29LS-60B)

S-VHS = Superior VHS system with bacwards compatibility
S-Video = Signal type

I have S-VHS and it it very good. The difference is similar to the jump between 8mm video and Hi8. Still analogue, but twice the line resolution.

VHS = 200 or so lines
S-VHS = 400 or so lines

and for the zealots, AFAIK.

I've got two SVHS decks. It took SVHS to catch up to the standard set by Beta and Super Beta.

If you mean, do you have to use an S-VHS cable to see the difference between VHS and SVHS, then the answer is yes.

"so if a TV has S-VHS, doesnt mean it uses S-Video, right? Damn.... stupid Sony"

WTF? Of course it does!

ok so... S-VHS means that the I can use the XBox AV Pack to hook it up to the S-VHS connector on the TV?

They're seperate issues. It's like asking if your tv has a DVD player (SVHS), does it also have a remote control 🙂 Who knows? 🙂

A TV can't have S-VHS...unless it has an S-VHS deck built into it. S-VHS is a tape format...like Beta, VHS, 8mm, miniDV and now D-VHS.

Your TV probably has S-Video (looks like a mouse connector)

S-VHS is the Signal and needs a S-Video connector, right?

S-VHS is not a signal...it's a tape format. Think of it as analogous to NTFS or FAT32 on your harddrive. It's how data is stored on the tape. S-Video is how that data is transferred to your display device (think of that as IDE or SCSI or Serial ATA)

ok, the problem is, the brochure tells me: S-VHS connector.

The brochure is wrong, then. 🙂

Oh wait...it's a Sony?!?

BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

No wonder.

j/k 😉
I'm thinking the same (it being wrong). It probably MEANS s-video.

It IS an S-VHS connector! It's also S-video. It's like RCA connectors. You don't need an RCA brand device to use them!

ndee...yeah...it's just an S-Video connector. Another connector type (such as composite or component - which uses RCA cables...component being designed to handle increased bandwidth).

Now, if S-VHS had been the ONLY format to use S-Video...I could see using the terms synonymously. But, S-VHS is all but dead and many other devices use S-Video connectors (even PCs 🙂 )

Same as calling an adhesive strip, a 'Band-Aid'. Same as calling locking pliers, 'Vise Grips'. It's a monicker that is universally accepted, though it is technically wrong. Wasn't long ago when the ONLY devices that used S-video were video tape decks, so it's no wonder that label is still used.

no, compared to vhs its nice. its just that they gouged it to death. prices were insane, probably still are. if u get one in a hot deal though u can simply mod normal vhs tapes to work in it. stupid over pricing..
