That has got to be the worst excuse for not playing a game I have ever heard...

worse than getting motion sickness from a fps? lol i kid i kid..

of course, i didn't stop playing it because it got dark. its a cool feature though. Ive been wanting this feature in a game with real time day\night changes since forever. mainly in racing games. good stuff.

That's a common problem called simulation sickness. My SO's daughter gets that with many movies.

Ahh, good to hear. That feature has been around since Ultima IV from 1985, if not longer. It's just not used often enough. Loved that game. :)

EDIT>> Actually, I think I am confusing the moon phases with day/night cycles. According to this page, day/night cycles weren't introduced until Ultima V.

BTW, for more realistic day/night cycles, install Stalker Complete.

Yup, one hell of a mod indeed. I should have linked to this page instead, since it has more info such as:

  • Natural multi-phase day and night transition, based on daily observations, photographs and studies by artists from Dolgov Studio.
  • Proper sun travel according to date (01.05.2012) and geographic location (Ukraine).

I second this mod...it is definitely made the game a lot more fun!

I'm downloading this mod now to see if it improves the game. I really didn't like it that much and tried hard to get into it. I'll restart a new game and install this mod and see if it improves it for me.

I had to mod the head bob, because it was making me very sick. Once I cut down the head bob it was very enjoyable.

the head bob in this game is actually severe. It hasn't bothered me yet but it definitly took some getting used to. It almost seems worse on widescreen resolutions

so far so good. reminds me of fallout 3. only thing thats kinda pissing me off is, when you shoot someone and they stumble, they almost seem to be invincible during the stumble animation.

Ive done a couple of side missions and just finished coming out the sewers (where you have to look for some guys stash) and have yet to come across any armor. When do I start finding armor?

There is some armor
near Strelok's stash
, you just have to search for it. If I remember correctly it's not much/any better than what you could have already, just newer.

The only reason I could not play this game is the ridiculous motion bobble that made me absolutely sick. No game has ever effected me like this.

you can find your first armor in Agropo Intitu right next to the gate there is a room with a mercenary armor, second armor in the sewer next to Stelok stash. The best armor you will get in Rostock map and Yantar. If you are playing the 2009 mod 1.4 you will find Military armor (the best) in Pipat

And, additionally, if my memory serves me well, there's about five or six armors including a SEVA Suit in one of the numerous buildings of the Wild Territory, that's a good place to explore but it's filled with radiation and anomalies, it's a dangerous place for the unprepared but I think it's worth it, outside of the main quest events there that is.

What patch do you have installed? 1.0005 is the latest official patch (1.0006 was recalled, but still works).

Is your download corrupted? Check the md5sum with MD5summer. If mine is correct (it installed fine), then yours should be e35ad65845af3e41dac691c0687104b5.

I finally got around to installing and playing this since I bought it during the christmas steam sale. Does anyone know how to fix the slow mouse movement in the menu and inventory screens?

The only reason I could not play this game is the ridiculous motion bobble that made me absolutely sick. No game has ever effected me like this.

Yeah, this made me ill in only a couple of minutes. There's a mod to fix it thankfully. http://stalker.filefront.com/file/No_Headbobbing_Mini_Mod;77365

I couldn't get into it. Too many things sucked like the traders and how they were few and far between. I hate mods.

I'm kind of lost.. whats the actual goal of this game? I'm stuck doing all these little side quests and really just want to find ghost or whatever. Right now I'm at this base where zombies are around me and I can run through tunnels to get to other sections. I just shut down a reactor or something (going by memory here), where I had to flip switches on each level and then a main switch at the top. Now what?
