they are usually a week behind ... you may get it first ... then they make you wait ... and wait

and wait

can't you play it without the patch?

blame nvidia 😛

i can, but whats the point in going any further when i'll have to start over once i apply the patch?

i think i will also play it again ... with a walkthru and after a couple of patches ...

right now i am *savoring* the game ... playing a couple of hours at a stretch and then doing something else.

completed the Lab ... seriously weird ... loved the 'sound effects'

i 'get' what is going on 😛

i better find Ghost and Strelock before i finish the MQ 😉

***SPOILER Question for those who finished the lab***

What is that "green" damage the monster spits at you? ... *nothing* healed it ...

and i was too young to die

i circumvented it by not taking damage at all - lobbed grenades at it from around the corner 🙂

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/stalker_mainstream_3d_performance/

nice performance review of mainstream GPUs

note AA has little effect with HDR
the jaggies seem slightly smoother on both the ATI and NVIDIA cards under 4xAA (to our surprise in the case of the GeForce 7950 GT), but they?re still notably present. We should note that forcing 4xAA in the driver control panel didn?t improve things

...

UPDATE 3/28/07: We received the following from NVIDIA: "The trouble is not HDR+AA but rather the game's deferred shading engine which is fundamentally incompatible with hardware MSAA. Essentially it's the same issue as Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter's engine. This is why the developer implemented a shader based AA (the slider in the game) but as you noticed, its effect is quite subtle. We have a new driver coming which gives some perf improvements and SLI for G80. Will keep you posted!"

Dumb question guys... Just started this game on Novice & when I
'm talking to the first dude, the fork and knife looking thing at the lower right of my screen turns red and I die like 5 seconds later. WTF?? This is literally 20 seconds into the game.

You may have accidentally sped up time by pressing *, you should be able to return it to normal with /. The patch will also prevent that from happening, and if you're just starting you may as well install it, the game will be alot easier.

Thanks, yeah I used the * for my talk/action button. Oops. I'll get the patch too!

Yeah, kill Strelock. I kind of knew from the start who Strelock was.

If you want to get the true endings, don't forget to meet the guide. He kept getting killed by those stupid dogs... but you can get his PDA notes from his corpse which will continue the quest. What a stupid place to put him.

The true endings are much better than the others which are kind of a joke - I can understand why someone might feel poorly after seeing those.

I brought 500+ rounds of AP ammo and had a little over 50 left at the end, also making heavy use of the Gauss rifle. A little too much fighting towards the end IMO. You go from the little guy just trying to survive a few bandits to guy who singlehandedly annihilates an entire army.

While sticking around close to home 'watching' the baby sleep while my wife has been away all weekend I've been able to play quite a bit of the game. I've finished all the Labs, and just wandered into the Red Forest. Had my first crash to the desktop this evening while being attacked by about 20 dogs.

Then I ran into a gauntlet that I tried to run through without fighting, and was eventually popped point blank by a shotgun ending my run 😛

I've had no performance glitches beyond the one crash, and am still enjoying the game.

Ive been replaying and im on a side quest that I didnt take the first time. The drunk stalker in the bar, he lost his families rifle, I cant find it anywhere. Ive went to the cords on the map and i cant find it.

The quest is broken so don't bother. It's just not there.

of course, comrade ... you are *the marked one* ... you just forgot your memory ... not your survival skills ... ben afflick could star ..

i *guess* i have the PDA ... i have the quests to meet "S" and find "G" ... heading out from the bar on the ... way to get the scientists help

[i'm quite sure the above is quite vague enough to not be a spoiler]

so ... WTH was that "green stuff" the Lab monster spits at you? ... *nothing* healed it ...
😛

I did it with version 1.0. So it's not "broken". 😉 Unless they broke it in the patch. 🙂

Tell that to the other guys.

quick ... i am "almost there" ... where IS the rifle?
:Q

you can always post with ****spoilers*** preceding it 😉

***SPOILER HINT***
Hmm... I think I may know what the problem is that people can't find the family rifle. 😀 I had a similar issue, except I didn't look "down" enough. 😀 Hope that tip helps a little bit. If not, I found it again, vaguely remembered where to go exactly and took pictures. 😀

there have been some weird puzzles ... in an abandoned house by the side of the road, the attic is *blocked* ... you can see the stash but cannot move the blockage or go around it

so you go back downstairs ... look up, find the stash which you could never see before - and shoot it down

🙂

thanks for the rifle tip

--is it worth 'keeping'?

and what about that grenade launcher?
-- i finally chucked it 😛
[or stashed it ... i must have millions of rubles in gear stashed all over ... never get to trade]
