Well yeah, that's the problem too. They took all that out. All of the RPG guys are gonna be crying because they removed the "hunger" - must find food thing, the exposure to radiation (drinking vodka was the response for this one I think?), and then the aspect of "trading" with others and updating your weapons, and lastly the day/night sleep cycle. I'm not sure if they got rid of the day/night thing, but I think the sleeping is gone. I like day/night cycle games - a la GTA 3 and a little HL2...

They removed sleeping but I don't think anything else you said is true. There was a recent little message by one of the developers which confirmed vehicles, hunger, and the advanced AI system all being in, and I read nothing to suggest that radiation or trading have been cut. Not to mention that you can see recent trailers with the day/night cycle...

Uh, no. X-Ray engine.

Ugh... guess 'smearing' is the future then.

Is it still "motion blur" if it's still there when you're still? :p

Oh thank Isis! The only reason I was looking forward to this FPS game was the RPG'ish style of it. If it would had been a standard game, I would have passed on it; now it has a future in my computer. :D

The RPG element really interests me. From what I read there will be interactive dialogue similar to Dues Ex.

From what I understand... the soft focus, hazy look of the UT3 engine is a tunable feature. Washed out textures and other loss of detail with draw distance are other performance tweaking "features".

If the game remains at all true to what they said they were trying to do with it, I would describe it as a scifi version of Oblivion more then I would call it a FPS. (Probably a bit more action oriented however) I wonder why their is a MP beta, because unless the multiplayer was co-op it is probably going to represent the most uninteresting part of this game.

Stalker has DM and TDM just like other FPS type games.
Don't know if there will be any player customization or what, but i've heard it's similar to counterstrike in that you can choose weapons and equipment at the beginning of the "rounds" or whatever.
It sounds great, i preordered @ gogamer.

Good timming too as Unreal 2008 or 2020 and Cyrsis look to be headed down the same 2-3 year delay this game had.

What kind of features does the X-Ray engine offer?

Nothing that hasn't been done in the past couple years, AFAIK. In 2003 some of the main ones people were drooling over were full DX9 support, a seamless game world... mostly stuff Oblivion ended up doing.

Still, I think it looks pretty nice. It just won't be something to buy for graphics over gameplay.

Hopefully it's more than a standard shooter... too bad they didn't go with iron/scope sights instead of the crosshair. The more realism the better.

It's a FPS/RPG, not a standard shooter. Did they cut out the iron sights just recently? A Gamespy preview written this February mentioned them as still being in, and that was during the beta.
