I now have like 200,000 and there really is nobody to buy anything from thats useful. : /

Is there another money or are you talking about the RU stuff in the inventory? Because someone else made the same point. But you use the RU to buy more stuff. I guess I'm wondering what's wrong with buying/upgrading - unless I'm missing something. I was also definitely too hard on this game earlier. I was at this section where "the Duty" are (Bar/Arena) and some of these graphics are photo realistic. I'm also finding this alot more like Farcry with RPG - which is fine by me because I enjoyed that game too.

On a side note, maybe somebody can help me. What's the easiest way to change/load the special Ammo? I'm hours into the game and I tried to bind "change ammo" and nothing happens. Is it only because I maybe have one type of ammo for that weapon?

Also, when/if I die, I try to load a saved game and nothing happens. I literally have to exit to Windows and come back in. I wonder if the saves file is hidden or something. Anyone else running into this? Good thing I don't die alot :p

No issues for me. Unless I quick save while sprinting.

C2D @ 2.8 with 8800 GTS.

FYI, some crates are destroyable and have items in them... haven't come across anything good yet though.

get another GT for SLI IF it is *cheap* .... or just go for the gold with an 8800GTX

forget dual-core for STALKER ... *OC* your CPU ;)

GOOD GOD ... you are at stock speeds?!? !!
:Q

OC *both* your CPU and 7900 ... right Now!! - especially the 'GT'
- it's call FREE performance increases ... just don't get too carried away with upping voltage.

try that *first* ... it'll give you an idea what to expect and after trying it you *probably* don't need an upgrade :p

well the problem with SLI is that i can't seem to find a straight 7800GT in the normal stores like newegg. they only seem to make GS and GTX cards in the 7800 series.

i have tried to overclock before but i can't figure out how to do it. every time i looked at some kind of guide, it was totally different than what my system had for bios settings.

i'm also scared that i'll mess something up and fry my equipment.

i found a EVGA 8800 GTS for $259.99 after rebate. thats not too bad i guess. i think thats less than I paid for my 7800GT.

i *swear* there is NOTHING to it :p

much easier than either building a computer or editing .ini files

CPU/PROCESSORS AND OVERCLOCKING

start a thread about your rig ... i am now active there OC'ing my new P43.4EE [made 3.8Ghz ... but don't like extra voltage so am playing it *safe* with 3.75Ghz ] i will look into it tonight after work

and of course, BEFORE you start your new thread, read the stickied threads and oc'ing general guides so you "look" a little experienced ;)

especially the quick 'n dirty Athlon OCing guide thread ;)

the time you take is SO worth it ,,, it is about the only thing "free" in HW ,,, still a genuine bargain for very little risk

gotta RUN for work ... laters

i swear i must be retarded when it comes to overclocking because i have tried several time before but i can't figure out how to do it. they say change setting X to this. well, i don't have a setting X or anything that even looks remotely close to it.

that quick and dirty OC guide is what i used before and my bios does not have the same settings they have listed in the guide.

i would like to OC to get better performance but i just can't figure it out.

it also seems to take a lot of time to do this, especially if you want to test it to make sure its stable. i don't really wantt to waste that much time.

not at all true ... you raise the FSB and or the multiplier ... that is *all*

doesn't take any benchmarking time for a mild-moderate OC of CPU/GPU which will probably give you +10 FPS ...

and the video card O/C'ing is "completely automatic" ... using the nvidia CP

how retarded is that? :p

i think you are just *lazy*

:D

i offered

anyway i am off to *play* STALKER

my crosshair just like died...all i get is a few small white blotches. i think it affected my pda too because the arrow doesn't show up any more either.

i exited the game so hopefully it will return when play again. despite its flaws, i really like the game.

i was going to try MP but the lowest ping server i saw was 203...no way can i play on that.

no, i'm not lazy, i swear. that guide says to change like 6 different settings.

can you give me a quick and easy walkthrough or something?

I wondered the same thing... thought it was some sort of autosave but that's not right.

A Q for anybody further ahead: are you ever able to upgrade how much you can carry? I mean I feel like I can either have enough ammo and not enough bandages, or vice versa, or low of both? Like an artifact or something?

No you cannot. How much you can carry stays the same.

And that is what the stash is for. There are stashes to save stuff you might want for later. Mine is probably full. The artifacts are needed for alot of side quests but... I just pick up all I find and put 2 of each in my stash for later. Cause there is a side quest for pretty much half of them.

But no, pretty much the only thing to spend money on in the game is ammo. If you can find someone who sells it. They really were short sighted in this game when they made money almost useless. Theres no point buying a suit or anything either since you find all the good ones.

Yes, and it usually happens to me when the weather changes.....like when it transitions from day to night and the rain starts, a bit annoying especially in a fire fight but nothing to detract from the game IMO.

there are small metal containers (look like small metal briefcases) that can be destroyed for goodies also...some crates will explode on you also...that has happened to me twice.

Also the secondary throwing feature of the grenades is more useful than using the primary throw, (that is more like a short toss) and the secondary is more like a throw.

i knew about the crates.
i just discovered the small briefcase type things too and was going to post. too bad i didn't discover earlier because i know i passed a few. they usually contain ammo though.

ammo is scarce for the rifles. i have probably over 1000 rounds of 9x18 ammo for the pistols.

you need to be able to carry more. man, i get so much stuff i get bogged down.

there are some trainers out there that remove the weight restriction though if you're interested. i haven't used any yet, but they're out there.

HOLY $@%#... what a steaming pile of code this game is...

XP: won't load past "CLIENT:synchronizing"... Just hangs and eventually, BSOD
Vista: plays for about 30 secs, than crashes to desktop.

I played for about an hour total on XP yesterday, and it ran okay. Today it has decided that it just doesn't want to work anymore.

probably needs a reinstall :p

running great for me ... really easy too ... i wandered thru the tunnel way far ahead of the plot and had to head back for bandages :Q

everything is *maxed* ... detail/distance etc. --except some shadows and med-hi textures ... and grass is more 'down' than 'up.... lighting is cool ... 14x9 ... i'd guess 2xAA [by the slider] and 'maxed' AF

Got my 1 > 1.5GB Ram upgrade today ... probably helps keep everything 'fluid'

one crash to desktop after leaving it on 'pause' ... forever.
... probably a slow but persistent memory leak ...

cant really tell from 'once' in 2-1/2 hours
:clock:

really like it

the Russian babble is interesting

oh yeah, do you *sell* the artifacts or *keep* them? ... i have two so far ... one seems to be useful for my guy.

and pontifex, i see you have an OC going ... keep going !

Artifacts start to become a dime a dozen to me ; mostly they're "junk". Some missions require artifacts, so you can keep 1 of each stashed some where. :) I do use 5 of them on the belt, I'm probably glow greener than Homer. :D 3 of them are +400% health increase, 1 has +200% health, and last I'm trying out for +73% Endurance. There are the negatives but my new suit breaks me even or by 10% in my favor. :)

The symbols on the PDA map that are circles with 3 triangle shapes in them are stash points you can use and raid.

last question before i head back into the *zone*

where do you safely stash your extra gear ?

thanks for the help
[i *promise* to read the manual tonight]

really like it so far ... it reminds me of a gritty FarCry ;)

To add to your questions with mine. Can other NPC's steal my stuff? Say instead of stashing it, I just drop the stuff on the ground near a dealer, will they just come by and take what they want?

Any way to advance 'time' in the game. I've hit some night times that are really dark and would prefer to wait it out instead of just standing there. Or one mission said it was better to go at night instead of day since there were more guards, of course it was day time when I reached the site. :(

You can stash your stuff anywhere I think. I use the stash at the "BAR". They dont take it or anything. There are a lot of stashes though. Should be at least 1-2 in each zone. I would try to find a stash that is somewhat in the middle of everything. Unfortunately this game requires you to do a lot of running back and forth.

To answer the other question about buying weapons. Well, as I stated before, they did not think the whole store/money thing very well. You will find all your suits/weapons/artifacts before finding someone to purchase from. I have 200,000 RU and the only thing i have ever needed to purchase from a trader is like ammo. You get all these side quests in the game for money and stuff, but you cant even really spend it on anything.
