The pictures look pixelated. Did they take an image from a 640x480 trailer and stretch them out to 1600x1200? Besides, the AI is supposed to be the best part about STALKER, not the graphics.

i'm not sure exactly why the pictures are pixelated, but i read some where THQ was only showing demonstrations to the press so i'm guessing they had to get those pictures on the spot some how, and yeah the game is going to be outdated graphics wise, still going to be a good game tho

I've been really looking forward to this game...I've heard bad things about THQ's butchering it...I hope it turns out well.

Heck, it doesn't need to look better than every game out there. It looks great as is. I showed the screenshots to my friend and he was amazed. (I doubt the pixelation is the engine's fault. Somebody rescaled the images...) I'm just looking forward to the awesome gameplay and it would be great if I could still play this game without buying a $1000 SLI setup.

doesn't any one even care about stalker now. Its should have been out ages ago. The game was shown when Valve , ID and crytech was bossting HL2 , DOOM 3 and Farcry. Now They are on making new Engine that would beat Stalker graphic. I don't think even think stalker will be even out before s Gear of war and UT2007 which uses the unreal 3 engine and that look looks better than stalker. Crysis looks better than stalker and that game seems to be ready to be released this year or early next year.

Stalker development team should have made a simple game to start off with it engine and some revenue and then made their dream game.

Farcry development team were forced to release its game very early and some good developer left few months before the launch because they weren't happy with the game and they hated the project manager as they never understood what game was and they kept forcing developers to work faster and skip the finishing touches "storyline". But look at them now , they are making crysis and it is the game they really wanted to develop. Have this really awesome storyline , great look graphic , great physic system and were given all time/cash needed to develop the game.

This is the game I have been waiting for to rekindle my FPS lust and satisfy my RPG taste buds.

Hope it works out and actually releases.

I believe they intentionally left this unanswered so it will only be answered in the game. So at least we know the acronym is a work of fiction.

this game has a lot of ambitious plans for gameplay and A.I., maybe they're trying to keep it running smooth by lowering the graphics quality and still keep the demanding A.I., these days a next gen game is all about bump maps, normal maps, and specular maps, if the gameplay is top notch i can live with out those 3

I've been waiting for this for years...still am.

I don't think the game was ever supposed to be a graphics showcase. They concentrated most of the work into the environment, AI and making the world real-time. I read that they may do away with the real-time and compress time by 4 or 8 times. The orignial intent was to have this huge, no boundary playing field to explore. If you wanted to snipe, then you could lay in a field for 14 hours, real world time, and watch the sun in the game arc across the sky in 14 hours of ingame time. Weather would change; cloud cover, rain, etc. I don't care how up-to-date the graphics are. I want a real time game with unrestriced, freedom of travel world.

The game has a heavy focus on gameplay/AI/environment. IMO the graphics look great. I dont need to see a graphics jump every game I purchase. I want to see improvements in gameplay. If this game is ever released it may take RPG FPS to the next level - Deus Ex with a sandbox attitude? Yeah I will purchase it all day.

You know, it's not the graphics I'm worried about. It's the fact that a year back they couldn't get the AI working or enough gameplay to release and those hurdles are probably still there.
