S/PDIF Output?

I have an S/PDIF Output on my compter, and am wondering if this means I can hook my computer up to my Stereo Receiver and play music through my floor speakers using a program like Winamp or inserting a CD into the CD ROM drive.

My specs are:
FX-53 940-pin
ASUS SK8V
2x512 OCZ PC3200 RAM
WD1200BB @7200 HDD
Enermax EG495P-VE SFMA
52x CD-RW

Any help you can provide will be very appreciated.

your stereo receiver must have a s/pdif input in order to interface between the 2 components. all you have to do is activate the digital output and set your receiver to accept the digital signal. it works just like any other connection except for its digital.

Yes it has better sound. It's what's used to pass Dolby Digital and DTS digitally to your receiver. You'll want to look for apps that support it though.

Yeah, get a rockin set of logitech or yamaha speakers with optical-in. Lots of mobo's coming out have optical connector for speakers now. It's cool for sure. My ABit nforce2 boards all have it.
