S.M.A.R.T. message on bootup?

Hi!

A friend of mine told me that after a lightning strike last week, that now when he turns his PC on, he gets a message that pretty much says S.M.A.R.T. has detected a problem and would he like to continue. He asked me what he should do and I told him i have no clue. What do you guys think he should do? Replace the hard drive right away???

Yup HDD is going bad, prolly along with the rest of the electronics in his house if the strike was on/near it.

Time for an insurance calim.

backup anything important now as theoretically the hard drive could fail at any time.

on the topic of s.m.a.r.t, my windows wouldn't start if I enable 'smart', why is that ?
