S. Korean Weapon Expos: Fun for the Whole Family

Unfortunately, when the North Koreans come across the border, it'll be the American troops doing most of the fighting.

That

looks

awesome.

I wanna go. I grew up on military bases, and I work in the defense industry (we don't make things that kill people, we make the things that kill people more efficient).

I still wanna go.

Nice Korea has mandatory military service for males, and first rate military equipment, so it's not like they're slackers.

S. Korea can wipe out NK without help of the US right now.

SK military is actually prety badass, which is why the US trains with them so much.

Yeah, I'm going to support you on this one. The S Koreans do pretty well for themselves, and I don't think think it would be a U.S. war. Also, the N Koreans are all like starving umpa lumpas... so it won't be much of a fight.

Way to prove you're ignorant. It's pretty clear you have no experience with the ROKs. Less than 30k doing all the heavy lifting against 1mil? lol

.... and once SK completes their plan to have all military hardware controlled by teenagers in internet cafes via the Star Craft gameplay interface, NO ONE will be able to fuck with SK.

We'll see if and when that happens. Hope it won't cause the entire area will be a nuclear waste land.

not really. south koreans have mandatory military service, and due to association with US, some of the best equipment in the world. an open war with NK would see NK destroyed...but of course then they'd go back to doing guerilla shit.

You forgot about their nukes.

pfft, just comsat scan for the ghost, kill his ass. No nukes will ever drop.

/joke

Having a nuke and using it are two very different things. I am doubting NK would even be able to set one off anywhere outside their own border right now.

Not to mention any nuke related facility is gonna be blown away wthin minutes of starting a war with SK.

Er, how do you think they got so badass? The US has been a big part of South Korea having a strong military.

And yeah, South Korea could mop the floor with the North, the problem is the latter might be willing to do something stupid and assholish in the first place and they'd like to prevent that from happening or send a very firm spanking to their ego and forces should they try to.

I don't see the US deploying a large troop force like say similar to Iraq in South Korea, but there's a lot of troops in the region already and the US has been upping its military presence (they've actually been asked to do so by other countries even).

SK could easily own NK right now, no problem. China is the problem they are worried about, any invasion of NK will involve China, on the wrong side.

Not wanting to get too far off topic. But when I was in the service, one of my good friends had previously served as an advisor to a ROK unit in Nam.

He had nothing but good to say about them. In fact, I never met anyone that had worked with the ROKs that had anything but good to say about them. (Other than perhaps they could be a little too hard nosed at times...)

If you are into things like that, they are generally credited with one of the highest kill ratios of the war...

While I can't speak for anyone else, this old dog soldier is very grateful for the service that the ROKs provided under exceedingly difficult circumstances.

lulz SK does not want unification. Like they want to own the problem that is NK.

china has two big issues beyond the saving of face.
1) Any war started will have millions of NK civilians flooding their border.
2) China does not want a Western proxy on their doorstep.

The VC & NVA hated coming into contact with ROK units.

Some have stated that that they were meaner than our Special Forces.

Wow, this is rather ignorant of the situation over there.

Not only would Seoul be completely leveled before the US Air Force and Navy could take out the NK artillery, if NK has managed to weaponize even one Nagasaki-sized bomb, it would be even worse.

Yes, the NK PEOPLE are starving, because the food goes to the elites and the enormous military.

I really hope that local SK propaganda does not convince their citizens that they could do anything to NK without help....

Even our tripwire force could be halved, which would cause a major shitstorm.

I wouldn't worry about the NK nuclear arsenal. aren't they missing a key component, a delivery system?

I thought that I read somewhere that Seoul is within arty range of NK. is that true?

I also read that all ROK SF members are black belts in taekwondo, generally pissed at the world, and eat the hottest food that can be found. I'm guessing some of this was embellished by the author.

Subject matter aside, impressive photography in that piece. The photographer managed to get an interesting perspective on each of the scenes. Some of them are almost surreal with the mist and the military hardware.

You can see bad korea's artillery pieces in the mountains from Seoul.

As mentioned above, Nice Korea's military isn't huge or anything, but they get a lot of respect.

I never said SK would not suffer losses, but any battle between SK and NK, SK will win without a doubt. Also, the food only goes to the elite, right now even regular NK soldiers have a food shortage. If NK was on an even footing with SK, they wouldn't have resorted to saber rattling and fake show of force for so long.
