edited 2nd - damn you badthad!:disgust: - thx for the stats HB 🙂

Not good over at BBR from what I read in the other post 🙁

Let's move on up!!

Thanks HB 🙂

Good TeAm day 😀

Sorry to see BBR take a hit like that, but we need to remember before Bandai started back up big they were gaining on us so lets keep our eyes on them.

Thanks for the stats HB 🙂

Good TA day, and welcome new teammate 🙂

Dasm shame to see what happened to our buddies BBR 🙁

Confused

I'll just second what Will said. The (temporary?) loss of Bandai will hurt BBR in the short term but they've still got a strong team without him. IMO, the loss of Bandai doesn't change our plan. We still need to keep our focus on Sun and HW France.

Welcome new TeAmmate & thanks Hellburner!

If there was ever a "case" where WUs should stay with the team, this would be the prime example. I sure hope Seti2 adopts a different policy.

I've long proposed that each processed WU should have two "counters" attached to it.

Counter #1: An individual specific counter that would add to the "individuals" total WUs. This could only be seen by looking at the individual stats (not Team stats).
Counter #2: A Team counter that would go to the credit of whatever team you belong to at the time of the processing. If you do not belong to a team, then the "team credit" would go to no one.

This would allow Seti Users to move to different teams if they so desired but it would have no effect on the "historical team WUs".

I'm going to send this recommendation on to S@H and cite the Bandai situation as a perfect example of why this should be the policy. I could cite many other similar cases but this Bandai case is the most flagrant behavior by an individual that only glorifies himself at the detriment of a whole team. No action by one single person should so dramatically affect hundreds, no thousands, of others.

Smokeball,

I whole-heartedly agree with you and couldn't have put it any better.

To me, the point of Seti Teams is to focus on the sum of the team's parts, not on some of its parts. You know, the whole "little folks working together" theory! 😉

Anyway, good day for the TeAm. We're gaining on Sun and HW France!

Now those stats are a morning wake up call! OMG !! :Q

I thought my coffee was too strong to see the numbers on BBR. 😀

Kick it in to high gear everyone!! Go, Go, Go, Go !!!

Greg, is what you're thinking basically along the lines of the way the RC5 project worked? Where if you were an individual that was crunching and then joined a team, the crunched units would count for the team, but then could not be transferred away if the user left, unlike the way SETI currently is?

Pretty much, except I wouldn't allow the counter for the "Team WUs" to pile up or accumulate when a user was not affiliated with a team. Team WUs could only be earned while you were a member of a team. This would stop the bonanza of a new member joining with tons of WUs. It would also not require S@H to keep up with another cumulative total. This would be a subtle point but the main thrust would be as you said "the WUs could not be transferred away if the user left". 😉

**VERY** well said, Greg. Couldn't agree more. 😀

Yep, that's the way RC5 worked. If you were an individual who had racked up a large amount of WUs, then those would get merged into the team numbers. If you left, those and any WUs cracked while a member of the team stayed with the team. You also got credit for them. If you joined another team, or stayed individual again, no additional WUs would go to your former team.

Me - 1000WUs

Me join Team A, Team A gets 1000WUs Me - 1000WUs
Me cracks another 1000WUs as part of Team A
Team A gets credit for 2000WUs from me, I have 2000WUs
Me leaves Team A and Joins Team B, cracks another 1000WUs
Team A has still has 2000WU credit from me, Me has 3000WUs, Team B has 1000WU credit from Me

Great day for the TeAM!

Wonder when Bandai will go back

Thanks for the stats HB!

Nice output by us! 😀
Welcome new member🙂

Ouch to BBR!🙁 ,what happened?

And I'm going to disagree with all you guys!😛😉 ,I would want my WU's to stay with me whichever Team I join(no I'm not leaving TA🙂),& that includes the new team getting them too.As the for the ups & downs? ,you live with them ,sometimes it works in your favour ,sometimes not.

Assimilator1,

You always seem to read into this idea that the WUs don't stay with the individual ... they would. Read what I posted again.

Two different counters:

(1) Individual Counter that keeps the total of each and every WU that the individual user ever cruched
(2) Team Counter that records WUs crunched while a member of a team. This would only be kept on the team's totals.

For example:

10,500 Total WUs for Assimilator1 (This would be the total reported by Seti@Home in your User Stats)
5,000 WUs for Team WhatEverYouWantToCallIt #1 (This would show in this team's stats as "WhatEverYouWantToCallIt #1 - Assimilator1")
3,000 WUs for Team WhatEverYouWantToCallIt #2 (This would show in this team's stats as "WhatEverYouWantToCallIt #2 - Assimilator1")
2,500 WUs for Team WhatEverYouWantToCallIt #3 (This would show in this team's stats as "WhatEverYouWantToCallIt #3 - Assimilator1")

So your personal stats wouldn't start over from zero everytime you switched into a new team. 😉

First of all :

Welcome to the new member ! 🙂 😀 😀

Pretty good day for the team ! 🙂

BBR. 🙁

Thanks for the stats HB. 🙂

SB : You also can change your handle and crack with a new one to let the WUs in your former team if you decide that's the right way. Or you leave with your WUs to fermly say that you disagree with the team. 😉 In this case it's only a personnal choice. 😉

Polo, you are correct except the way the stats are kept now you would not have a grand total of all of your personal WUs. You'd end up with multiple accounts.

In the method I'm proposing you would have your own personal total and the team's you've joined over the years would have theirs. 😉 🙂

[edit]
I reread your post and I think you are saying you like the current way because if you dislike something about the team you'd be leaving you could punish them by removing your WUs in addition to the loss of any of your future production?

So I guess there are two different ways of looking at this.

One way (the current way) a user could abandon an account allowing the crunched WUs to stay with the team he's leaving and open a new SETI account for his new team. Or completely move his account if his departure was under less than friendly circumstances.

The other way (the one I'm proposing) a user departing a team would only deprive that team of his future production.

I see the difference and I still believe crunched WUs should stay with the team you crunched them for. 😉

SB
I understood you fine 1st time mate🙂 ,what I was saying is that I would want my WU's to follow me to my new team[im not leaving] as well as for my account,as it is now.
I know its annoying when someone leaves ,the teams total drops, but it would be more annoying to gain new members & not have their WU's ,we'd be worse off overall. We gain more members than we loose right?
I do think its pointless though when someone moves there WU's knowing they are going to leave the new team 'x' number of weeks/months down the road

I tell you what,I'd be interested to know what TA SETI thinks of the different stats ideas ,the current 1 & your idea ,fancy creating a poll for it?
(I would but I'm about to go to bed😉)

A poll would be interesting to see how everyone feels about this but I'm about to watch a little TV and take a break. 😛

I know what you all are thinking but let me tell you when you retire you are going to have a hard time keeping up. Free time is like a spare room, you will always fill it up with something. 😉 🙂
