the founder of the group can access email addresses. i don't know if we should really do it but we can look send a letter to everyone who hasn't been contributing lately, explaining the team's position, and asking if they would fire up their clients again. heck, there may be some people who still have version 1 of the client and don't know they're not running units anymore.

I think the friendly letter to inactive members would be a GREAT idea. We'd probably get several responses like "Oh crap, it's not running?" *click click* "There we go. Reinstalled Windows and forgot to reinstall Seti" or something to that affect which would boost output. Some who have drifted away that will become re-interested ESPECIALLY if you let them know about this forum. I was drifting myself until I looked on here and found it and look how my WU scores have gone up in the last month since I've been on here. I have been doing SETI since May 99. Late August 2000 I hit 300 WU's. This weekend 1 month later I hit 400 🙂. Talking to people on this forum is what it's all about and it even a BIGGER interest to me than even running the client 🙂. On my person UBB (http://laf.cioe.com/~benbobbo/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi) I posted something about Seti@home in my off topic section yesterday and the reply was "I used to run it, it's definitely a kickass program and project. I'll use that team when I sign back up." So it's that simple. And since these people have already signed up with Team Anandtech that means they are probably already at least a little hardware savvy which makes them MORE inclined to comeback ESPECIALLY with this forum....

I could go on how it would be an awesome idea to send a friendly "Hi from Team Anandtech! Noticed yer stats were sagging and wondered if there was anything we could do to help. Come on over to forums.anandtech.com and we'll help in any way we can to help you boost your production. Most of the people who post questions get answers in minutes, normally less than 10, so please come on over and join your team in discussion." or something to that affect.

thats a good idea ben, is there anybody out there who would liket to voulunteer to do it. if not if we could all pick about 10-20 random users and send them our own personal email telling them about it, then that may work.

i think lots of them have used the forums at one point but don't come back, maybe we can find there email addresses that way.

This e-mail letter thing probably should get it's own thread, it's been talked about before and I think a letter was even drafted... then I think it died?

There was a similar letter that was planned for RC5. Distributed.Net frowned on it (they have an EXTREMELY strict anti-spam policy). I see no problem with one email as long as the people are not bugged and bugged and bugged.

great... vapor is the team founder, but is one of those who has fallen away from the team. hasn't had any output since at least april, looking at orangekid's stats... a search of the forums comes up with nothing, either. maybe we can get the seti@home people to change team founder's name?

Fingers, I don't know much about the via boards. Just post a question in the DCF and ask. I'm sure the guys will be quick to help you tweak it out for seti.🙂

It appears vapor left AnandTech back in May (see here). I think it would be a good idea to revive current membership also, as someone said above it might easy to get a lot of machines going again that way, where SETI has been bumped with an upgrade or needs a new install etc. Is anyone still in touch with vapor? Was there a new thread started for this, sorry if so I was just browsing and found this one.

Oh! 🙁 ,I didn't know that ,which section was that in?
I guess that also explains why he stopped doing SETI for us again

It was posted in Off Topic. I didn't see any posts by vapor after that date when I did a search. I think there was a link in that thread where someone had seen him on the ARS board. It might have been a different thread though, I read through a few.
