Ryzen-G builders beware

At first installation POST with a Ryzen CPU, or after a CMOS clear, or BIOS / UEFI flash, or swapping CPUs, it takes... some time... with a black screen, before it POSTs. It can be a tiny bit ... scary.

The reason I found it scary was that my inner pessimist was telling me I'd already killed the board because of the paste in the socket.

I am happy to report that my X370 Taichi is doing very well on UEFI rev 4.60 (Pinnacle Ridge UEFI) which I just flashed a few moments ago. It's back up and running DDR4-3466 with my old timings. Maybe I can squeeze out some more speed later . . .

But anyway, whatever problems ASRock had with 4.40, seem to not affect 4.60, at least for the Taichi.

I'd hope they got the issues worked out on the Taichi first given it was their flagship board. But they've made me pretty cautious after my Raven Ridge experience.
 
It looks to me like they introduce new UEFI revisions for the Taichi later than their other boards. The Taichi never got a 4.50 UEFI, for example. And it has an allegedly-working 4.40 UEFI available for download, but I skipped that (was on 3.00; flashed to 3.30 as a bridge and then went straight to 4.60).
 
Buddy of mine just picked up a 2400G from Microcenter in NJ. They stated they will not do the BIOS flash but have a sticker on the boards that have been updated.

They won't flash them to the newest BIOS? Even for a fee? I thought that they, generally-speaking, offered that service (not just for AM4 board). That's a bit disappointing.

The store in Paterson NJ won't do it, at least. I got the impression they really didn't want people buying/returning CPUs to do that, but doing it with an open box CPU might be better tolerated. They do have open box A6 9500's for 40 bucks.
