Why not go with the R7 1700 and use its stock cooler? It sounds like you can use the extra threads.

Just a question of costs, that's why I prefer to downgrade from 1600X + custom cooler 1600 + stock cooler.
6 core OC at 3.8 Ghz will be enough to be also future proof. Also if in the future I'll need really more I will probably have the budget to upgrade to 1700 or better.
