Both are the same price. Which would you recommend for 4k gaming? I have bought Sapphire cards since my 4850's but the Sapphire card is twice the price.
Wow, the RX 6950XT is now below $600!! Cool beans! GL manPulled the trigger on the XFX for 599.99. Considering the ridiculous prices of just a year ago that is not too bad. It's the fastest AMD card that supports Win7 too. I suspect the price might even come down some since it looks like old stock is being dumped. Check out the prices on newegg in this video. 2789.98 for an XFX 6900XT.
I haven't upgraded in years. I got an Rx 590 for 140.00 that I was planning on putting in my new build but then decided I might want to do a 3 monitor setup so needed something that could handle 4k. I looked at 6800XT's but for 100 more the 6950XT was hard to pass up.Wow, the RX 6950XT is now below $600!! Cool beans! GL man![]()
At the end of that Youtube video when he showed the newegg prices, yeah what a nightmare. In 2021, I was int he process of upgrading and when I started looking at video cards I couldn't believe how ridiculous the prices were. I was looking at RX 590's and broken ones were going for 150.00 on ebay. I shelved the whole upgrade because I wasn't going to spend the kind of money on a video card. Glad crypto mining is essentially dead. The pandemic crypto combo was a nightmare alright.
I think you got a lot of card for $60
I will. I need to find the time to get the OS's installed on the system. I am starting off with a 2700X/32GB 3200DDR4 on an MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max which is a little dated but shouldn't be too much of a bottleneck. I can upgrade to a 3700x/3800x if necessary.Let us know more about your experience once you have had time to enjoy some games with it.
Go directly to a 5700X, if you must. Better to max out the CPU IPC.I can upgrade to a 3700x/3800x if necessary.
I would have to flash the BIOS to use a 5700x. I'll get the 2700x running first then decide about an upgrade. I have a water cooler how well does the 5700x overclock?Go directly to a 5700X, if you must. Better to max out the CPU IPC.
The best would be 5800X3D.

This, going straight to a 5000 series is really the best bang for the buck. Just have to make sure you flash the bios with the 2700x still installed.I would have to flash the BIOS to use a 5700x. Don't know about Phantom Gaming, but XFX has pretty much the best coolers for RDNA2 cards, see the following review from Hardware Unboxed:
The review is for 6800XT, but the coolers should be the same between 6800XT/6900XT/6950XT. The XFX Merc 6800XT has the lowest temps after normalizing for noise. I'd go with XFX price being equal.
I knew it as soon as I ordered the price dropped...598.99! I checked and the board will support up to a 5800X3D with a BIOS update. A new 5700X is only 179.99 ridiculous power for that money. Looks like the 7xxx draw a lot more power to get the boast in performance. Lots of good deals on used AMD CPU's. I'll have to look if the board supports the 5900X. Are there any boast issues with the 5900X? I read that the 3900X gaming performance suffered since the boast frequency on multiple cores was only about 4Ghz.Congrats on the new card! As for the CPU upgrade, I would probably go with either a 5800X3D or a 5900X to go with that card. Keep in mind you can get good used deals on AM4 chips as well.
5900X is a great gaming CPU, and has no issue boosting as long as your cooling is up to task. Though every chip is a bit different, in general the 5900X will boost a bit higher than a 5800X.I knew it as soon as I ordered the price dropped...598.99! Wow, where? I was going to hold out till Black Friday hoping to pick up an RX 7900 XT. But, <= $600 for the RX 6950 XT sure is a damn good deal (and I have BDay money to spend). Just a few features missing compared to the RX 7000 series.I knew it as soon as I ordered the price dropped...598.99!

The 5900X is on the list of supported CPU's so that is definitely high on the list and I'm guessing that as time goes on games will use more and more cores.5900X is a great gaming CPU, and has no issue boosting as long as your cooling is up to task. In general, if a board can run a 5800X, it can run even a 5950X as well. Though you would be wise to be wary of VRM temps on el cheapo boards when running 16 cores at high load, a regular gaming load shouldn't be any problem for a decent X470 board, regardless of CPU. FYI, I have my old 5900X running on a B350 board.
Games love fast cache way more than they are affected by core count. The 5900X is on the list of supported CPU's so that is definitely high on the list and I'm guessing that as time goes on games will use more and more cores.
I do a lot of transcoding that would be the only thing that would use 12 cores.Games love fast cache way more than they are affected by core count.
If your productivity workloads could benefit a lot from the extra cores, 5900X is ok but for games, the only best AM4 CPU is 5800X3D. The best thing about it is how it can make the gaming experience buttery smooth by increasing the minimum FPS and reducing microstutter.
