An irresponsible teenager will wrap a 1960s VW Beetle around tree if you let him.

RWD / AWD / FWD doesn't make a difference. It's driving attitude. The first car I drove as a kid > 15 was a RWD '81 Mercedes E200 (about 100 HP) manual then I drove a RWD '94 E200 (About 120 HP) at 16 and I managed to stay out of trouble though I was pretty wreckless (whenever I found an empty space to have fun in). A kid will always try to go fast, but the best thing to teach him is to have fun in safer places not on full public roads or places where he could wrap his car around a tree.

almost NONE of the cars mentioned in here are actually fast.

oooh v8? vics are still slow. so are 3rd gen fbodys, damn near anemic

Did you watch the video? The car is going 150mph. If you give that car to a 16 year old, they are going to drive it 150mph at least once.

That was kilometers.
The gauge ends at 200km/h which is 125mph and the car is going faster than what the gauge can show.

There's a reason cops drive crown victorias. The ability to keep up with your average 270HP Honda Accord is one of those reasons.

Any I4 family sedan can go 125mph...Top speed isn't the problem its how fast you get there.

I've been in a 1987 Honda Accord going flat out pegged at the redline 120 mph on the freeway. Friends first car.

This.

I've been 145 at night on a hilly uneven county road in a 10 year old saab, lucky I didn't hit a deer or worse

Ok instead of getting a shitty car, just get a normal car but with an automatic transmission. A Civic and a Corolla are about the same size with roughly the same power, but my Civic went waaaaaay faster than my Corolla did just because it had more gears and they were positioned better.

Get an early to mid 90s automatic. My Ford Tempo only had 3 gears! What a pile of shit! I think I already stated in this thread that its top speed was 140km/h (about 88mph).

Hahaha Ford Tempo. That was back when American cars mostly deserved their horrible reputation. Pile of shit indeed. I remember driving a rented but new '94 Ford Escort LX that struggled to hit 70mph on level ground, sounded like it was about to simultanously implode, explode, and otherwise vibrate everything to death from every possible point on the car. It didn't have a tachometer, but you could tell by the horrendous complaining from the 1.5L motor that it was redlined in 3rd gear. What a horrible vehicle.

My first car was a '66 Mustang with a 289. Not the power for a IROC (which is one of my fav vehicles), and I survived it. I did however flip a 4cyl ranger, and wrap a cadi around a tree. Never wrecked the Stang though.

I think a high powered car can help a person wreck, because keeping the foot off the gas can be hard, but its up to the individual.

Also this.

If your cousin is the kind of kid who'd drive crazy and get in a wreck, hes gonna do it no matter what car he has. Just try to look for one thats not too terribly unsafe
