The 4850 will hold an advantage in shader instensive games. I do like the idea of the 4750 and 4770 for a HTPC setup. Should be near HD4850 performance at 4600 series temps.

Yep. I really hope it's available. There is a HIS dual slot 4670 for about 60 after rebate. For a 40 dollar premium, a 4770 seems worth it. My HTPC case is set up so that the video card cuts off half the case. Unless the video card blows air out, the air flow will be pretty bad. The 4770 appears to have a stock exhaust type cooler.

But won't 640 shaders @ 750Mhz be very very close to 800 shaders @ 625? So will this "shader advantage" really hold true?

The only difference in performance between the HD 4770 and the HD 4830 would be the core clock speeds, considering that the HD 4770 is gonna have higher clocks, it should be faster than the HD 4830, but slower than the HD 4850 unless if it's clocked to 780MHz to make it up for the missing 160 stream processors, making it as fast as the HD 4850 at stock in raw speed.

It would be like upgrading to a 9800GTX, a small performance gain, unless if you want to save a lot of money in power consumption or reduce your heat dissipation, you may sell that 8800GT in ebay and your upgrade will be almost for free, and you will get back more power savings features, DX10.1 and less heat dissipation and better FSAA performance.
