If I have to go chain I'd rather be at the Palm.

I went to The Palm last night........

For all prime steakhouses:
$10 Appetizer
$45 steak
$10 side
$10/drink
+tax + tip

I'd rank Ruth's a 7/10, with Mastro's being the only 10. I have never had anything between 7.5 and 9.9.

Mastro's is good but I've only been there once and I had the prime rib, which was inded most excellent (although large enough to sink a battleship). I'd need to try other steaks there before giving it a proper rating.

There is a short list of places here in Chicago that rate 8-9-10 in the food and expense categories. I only visit a couple regularly, Keefer's typically being my favorite.

For Chicago, our group of business trevlers hit up Harry Caray's and did over $1,000 in damage for the 9 of us. Of course we had 2-bottles of wine plus mixed drinks. I had the $20 chicken Vesuvio and was really pleased! Great Chicago meal!
When we have to entertain for business Harry Caray's it a great place to do it. The food is good and the atmosphere is very unique and Chicagoey (that's not a word but I use it anyway :p )

Ruth Chris is good, I'd give it a 7. It'll run you about $150 for 2 people. It's nothing that special though.

Speaking of Harry Caray's in Chicago, it didn't really blow my mind either. It could have just been our waiter, but I felt like it was overpriced and didn't really live up to hype. I've been to Gibson's in Chicago a few times. For ~35-40, their "WR's Chicago Cut" bone-in ribeye is probably the best steak I've ever had.

My personal short list of best Chicago steakhouses:

Keefer's
Gibson's
Chicago Chop House
David Burke's Primehouse

Agree. I spend way less at Stoney River Steakhouse and the steaks there a freaking delicious and their free bread is awesome. Much better than Ruth's Chris.

Stoney is blah as well and little worse than Ruth's IMO. I would rate Stoney about a 5.5 and Ruth's a 7. I don't think Stoney even serve USDA Prime beef. The steaks I had there tasted like USDA Choice to me. In Atlanta, Chops along with Bone's are the places to go for good steak. Bone's is little more old school with heavy cigar smoke in the bar areas. I prefer Chops because the atmosphere is little more laid back, and they also have the Lobster bar downstairs. Bone's, Chops, and Ruth's all run about $150- $200 for two. I always figure $100 a head when I go to these restaurants to be safe.

Yea, my friend got the prime rib last time i went...my Lord that thing is HUGE. Try their rib-eye chop (get is MEDIUM, they undercook it on purpose so their medium is really a medium-rare)...it's freaking huge and it's orgasm in your mouth.

overpriced in my opinion, I only ate there once and that was because I got a gift card from them.

Best steak I've ever had. I wish it wasn't so expenseive though. We have two of them on the island here. I haven't been there since I moved here. I'm saving it for my first commission check.

Did you ever eat at Club Paris (Anchorage)? Bleu cheese stuffed filet? I truly think that's the best steak house in the US.

I'd give it a 6/10. There are better steak houses.

by "better" you mean more expensive, as Op's scale is based on $$$ amount

No. By better I mean better food at the same price.

For example: At home (LI, NY), there is a place called Fulton and Prime (formally known as Manero's) which dry ages their steaks on site. Also, Sullivan's (On N. Dearborne, across from a RuthChris) and Smith and Wholensky's (sp? on the river, next to the House of Blues) are both much better than RuthChris as well.

Edit: I misread the OP's question. I would rate as expense wise it an 8/10, but food wise it would get my 6/10 rating.

As long as you are not going to the morton's on boylston street boston you're fine.

I went to Smith and Wollensky's for lunch today and their filet is still one of the best i've ever had.

Dinner for 2 at Ruth Chris will run about $100-150 with drinks on average. The steaks alone run from $30-50, and sides are 5-8 a piece (usually big enough for 2 people to share.

If you are going to spend that kind of money, I would highly recommend going to a Don Shula's if you have one in the area. I had the best ribeye steak I've ever had in my life there, and I've been a bunch of nice steakhouses. It was even better than the Ribeye at Abe and Louis in Boston, which is supposed to be one of the best steakhouses in the country.

The food is good but it is pricey.

On a scale of 1-10 I'd rate their quality of food a solid 7. Value I'd rate a 6. They have some good appetizers too. I've eaten there probably a dozen times.

We took my Mother-In-Law out to dinner there a few years ago. For 5 people the tab came to $250 not including tip.

A couple of years ago my wife and I celebrated an anniversary at RC for about $175 including wine but not the $35 tip. Everything was exceptional.

Well, if you want Prime beef, it's the place to go.
However, if you want said beef prepared properly, don't go there.
Steak should be seared on the outside, RC's steak appeared more like it had been boiled, yes BOILED.
No sear marks even on the outside. Cooked rare though, but still....

Their claim to fame is that they sear the meat at 1800 in a broiler oven. Text
