it was a curious possum investigating some rubbish (which I forgot to put it in the bin).

I cut him a sliver of pear. he gingerly picked it up with his two front paws, nibbled it a bit, then raced up a nearby tree to eat it in safety.

why?
They can be vicious. Let me see if I can find that video of an animal control guy trying to get one off someone's porch.

Not to mention their diet...anything especially dead rotten things. Ever hit one of them before with your car? Smeels like a crap factory just blew up.

Please find it! That sounds cool!

I've been googling and can't find it. I know it was posted here too, but no luck!

you fed it?
you do realize, that now it will be back?

OR, was that your plan? Sit and wait with a loaded gun or a machete.

The funniest thing was when I threw it more pieces of pear, it would always turn its back to me when it was eating. Then it turned back around for more. I ended up feeding it the whole pear. Then finally it sat right up on it's hind quarters, with paws in the air, just looking at me as if it was expecting me to offer more food. :)

Possums are some of the friendlies creatures in nature. Entice it with some more fruit, then pick it up and pet it.

I remember driving through the central to mid west states seeing alot of road kill. The stinkiest would have to be Skunks. Gah you could not get that stench out even with the windows closed and fans on high.

Oh yea, I once caught a possum in my rabbit's home. I thought it was my rabbit that returned home but it was a possum. All I can say is, possums' are extremely vicious when caught. Had to call animal control to take it away. Sharpest teeth and claws, tore up the wooden home and was baring it's teeth when the animal control arrived. Dunno if it had rabies or what not.

Nice job. :) Most here would probably have just killed it because it had the nerve to be looking for food near them....

I can attest to their meanness. When I was dumb kid me and a couple of buddies decided to corner one. Damn, that thing got so pissed, it was hissing and charging. We whacked it upside the head with a skateboard and it just laid there. We came back later and it was gone. Little mother played "Possum" and split.
