Aim Surplus is selling these for $79.95 each + shipping. A great deal. If you have a Curio & Relics FFL license you can get them shipped right to your front door. They're less of a deal if you don't have one and would have to have one shipped to your local gun shop (transfer fees).

I have two of these 1891/30 Mosin's: a 1942 and a 1943. They are cheap to shoot and a complete hoot as well (3 foot fireball visible in broad daylight).

The 7.62x54R is a .30 caliber round similar in power to the 7.62x51 (.308 Winchester) or 30-06.

They are a very visceral piece of history as the 1891/30 was the standard rifle of the Soviet military during WWII. Millions were manufactured during the war years and saw combat against invading German forces.

They come with the original cleaning kit as well as a huge cruciform bayonet for skewering zombies dumb enough to come into melee range and a heavy duty steel butt-plate for butt stroking the severed heads biting at your ankles.

I'm not, nor is anyone I know affiliated with Aimsurplus. I just love the stuff that they sell.

My cousin has one of these, his was actually made in America and exported to The Red Army during WW2. I have always wanted one of these, how much do they usually charge for a transfer fee? I assume a local pawn shop that carries guns can do this for me? Hmm, might just wait around for the gun show to come to town next month.
 
I been wanting one of these rifles for a LONG time. Most places near me want $25 transfer fee. Is it illegal to have someone ship you one if you pay them to buy it for you? I know you can sell rifles person to person, but was not sure the exact situation needed.

I just have a .22 gun, but watched these being shot on youtube and wanted one ever since.

Schadenfroh, a pawnshop would be a good place to get one, should not be more than a $100..but make sure you get a good bore on one, and test the bolt out. If you happen to find the rare one with sniper insignia on it they are more.
 
Yes, there are some U.S. made Mosin Nagant rifles. Westinghouse was contracted to produce them for the reds. Very cool.

Most gun shops will do a transfer. Some gun shops charge ridiculous rates ($50) for a transfer. Some are cheap ($10). Just call around your area gun shops. First, ask if they sell Mosin's. I'm a big supporter of shop local as long as they don't want a ridiculous amount for the rifle. Most gun shops around here sell the 91/30 rifles for $109-$139. If they don't, ask about transfer fees.

What you have to do is have your gunshop fax aimsurplus a signed copy of their FFL license. Many gun shops will already be on file with aimsurplus. Aim ships the gun to your gun shop. Your gun shop runs a background check on you and then you pay them the transfer fee and take the gun home.

If you have a Curio & Relics license (a special collector's license), you can skip the gun shop and the transfer fee and have the gun sent to your front door via UPS. You just send Aim a signed copy of your Curio & Relics license and they ship the gun to you 🙂

I should start a thread about getting set up with the C&R license. It costs like $30 for 3 years and is super simple to do. There is a lot of variety in firearms that qualify as curios or relics with the ATF.

That's a big no-no: as in PMITA Federal prison. No person to person mailing of firearms. You can ship any gun to a gun shop/pawn shop w/ a gun license. You can ship a qualifying Curio & Relic firearm to a C&R license holder. You CAN NOT ship a firearm to just any Joe Blow.

Believe it or not, you CAN ship any firearm to yourself. Ex) you are moving from WA to AK. You are driving through Canada with the moving truck and don't want to have to deal with the hassle of traveling through Canada with firearms. So, you ship your guns to your new home mailing address in AK and have UPS or whatever shipper hold the package until you pick it up at the distribution center.

Not entirely true. In PA I can ship a long gun (rifle or shotgun) to another PA resident without going through an FFL holder. Only handguns have to go through a FFL (unless it's a parent to child, spouse to spouse, or grandparent to grandchild transfer, then they can just hand the gun over without transfer).

That could be a straw purchase and is illegal. depending on state law, the shipping part may be illegal as well.

I hope for your sake that you're 100% certain and can produce the appropriate law as proof. 🙂 Either way, what you described was a straw purchase. You can buy a gun as a gift for someone as long as they are of age and are not otherwise legally prohibited from taking possession of said firearm. However, you CAN NOT give someone the $$$ and have them go buy a firearm for you. You would be technically the one buying the firearm, but the other guy actually carrying out the transaction is the one who is filling out the form 4473 at the gun shop and answering the background questions. Not kosher. Yes, most U.S. gun laws are nonsense. However, federal prison can be a real pain the @ss.

If it is interstate shipping then you can ship it with no FFL involvement. Explainging the law to the moron at UPS/FedEx is another story though. The only time an FFL is required is on purchases from a dealer, or if the firearm is crossing state boarders.

Also, you can mail a firearm to yourself from another state. IE, you don't want to go through the hassel of dealing with checking a firearm with an airline.
 
aimsurplus is a good deal regardless of having to go through an ffl....this comes to $120 total with ffl fees and such for me, and the cheapest around here is $150
 
How long ago did they start with background checks for long rifles?

When i bought my .22 in 2001 they just checked ID and sold it on the spot.

Unless there are specific state laws that override this it appears that this applies to all states. Intrastate shipments of long guns do not require an FFL.
 
Ahh. I think I had a rifle like this in Anarchy Online a few years ago, a misnamed tribute to it I guess or something. It DID have a cool firing animation and sound, so I give it 4 stars for serving my character so faithfully for probably a few days or weeks. I did end up replacing it with a higher level gun, so it doesn't get the full 5 stars.
