What a luxury it is for dictatorships to be able to control the media their people see and hear. Imagine Trump controlling our media outlets. We'd have Putin and Trump hosting daily/hourly shows on FOX, the chosen state media outlet purporting to be the most trusted "reliable source of news and commentary" with every other media outlet being suppressed into underground "criminal propaganda groups".

The role of our media outlets, many of which once played the role of watchdogs on our leader's word and deed would be reversed. Can't happen? The Repub leadership and their benefactors are throwing $billions$ at the attempt this very moment with Trump, the best dang liar that money can buy being their current celebrity spokesperson.
The Golf Channel would be Trump beating every World class golfer. He’d make Kim jealous.

Yeah, like I’m sure once the boomers are gone people like DeSantis and Cruz and Noem will snap out of their MAGA trance and finally come to their senses, rofl!!! Or maybe Paul Ryan will rescue the Republican Party after all!!

When I see the worst of the worst MAGAts, I don’t see Boomers. I see Juniors.
Yup, just yesterday I saw a dude roll through a parking lot in his new Ford pickup with giant Trump stickers similar to this on both sides:

No way h was over 30. Probably closer to 25. Plenty of young high-school dropouts love them some Trump.

I must say this whole right wing radicalization has radicalized me as well, the few FYGM and closet bigots/racist i tolerated in my circle is gone. Fuck those bitches, you wanna hate hate somewhere else, you wanna double down on stupid double down somewhere else.
And I dont even live in Trump country.

Interesting take on it. I mean, I see those peeps, and where do you think they learned what they're doing? Who is leading the way?
do you think once all the boomers are gone their offspring are going to change their views? some will, most will not.

just an fyi, I could be considered one of the last boomers or one of the earliest gen-xers. I was born in 63

America is getting less conservative, not more. That's why GOP leadership has been hammering disinformation and making moves to solidify minority rule.

So yea, i think overall their offspring are less like them. Just the ones who are still like them are the loudest mfer's out there.

No, I've learned a ton about working on my model car in particular from you-tube, ditto home appliances, plumbing, ect. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water.
Plenty of good stuff on YouTube. Somehow I manage to keep my YouTube almost completely politics free. I don't get recs for any dumb shit on the political tip. Once in a while there is a news tab rec and there is a fox news clip in there.

I'm guessing as soon as you start clicking on Fox news shit the algorithm starts taking you to the land of fucking idiocy.

Took me a while to get hip to Youtube, but it's a fantastic resource. Ditto with Wikipedia. Both are inexhaustible treasures and ever expanding.

Edit: Uh, yeah, I figure I have NEVER watched any Fox stuff on Youtube, I don't get any YT suggestions for Fox stuff, ever. IIRC, really nothing in the covidiot sphere. I do watch a fair amount of stuff on Covid on YT, have learned a lot, am subscribed to a few. I have wide ranging interests, YT has many more suggestions than I have the time to watch, but I like the aspect that they are suggested. I figure it's partly because people who have watched what I've watched have watched the suggested videos a lot of times. YT's algorithms are infinitely simpler than, say Google's. Now, what Google does is HELL OF IMPRESSIVE. I suppose I should research Google's algorithms, I think that would be interesting.

As soon as i somehow land on a link like that i have to go into my history and delete it, the 'not interested'/'do not recommend' option doesn't seem to work well enough on it's own. If you can keep your history 'clean' then the results are usually quite good. I've found many great new music artists this way.

You know, there used to be a time in which one learned a ton about working on (fill in the blank) by reading a book about repairing said (fill in the blank). You know, like Haynes/Chilton/factory service manuals for vehicles…like where all those utubers learned their info…reading and experience.

Granted, it’s easier to watch a utube vid, but how many crappy ones do you have to watch to ensure vital steps on this or that repair aren’t left out? Sorta why I still reach for a repair manual when I can. Seen too much bs on utube to keep wading thru that shit just to discover the appropriate info was right there on a shelf.

I used to be able to read a manual and comprehend enough to do a task. But my mind is going and I'm no longer able to really absorb and process written information. I can read a paragraph a dozen times and it still won't make sense.

But I have the same problem with videos and that's part of why I stopped watching TV and movies. It's hard to explain but videos almost hurt my eyes. The images gloss by without sinking in and if I want to stop and study a still image, I can't always do it. Frame grabs don't always work out clear. I need a series of detailed static images that I can look at and compare to the real object in front of me.

internet video tutorials are a great resource, especially for those who struggle with reading, converting words into a mental image or how it applies to what they're trying to do.

many people learn by doing, watching, etc...

You may laugh but I have keyboard fingers… reading the manual and trying to replace a fucking bulb on my car…. nope. Watching a youtube and seeing this dude do that press on a spring and release? Yes sir, thank you!
