Putin said inspectors have not reported obstacles to their work in Iraq and diplomatic measures to resolve the crisis have not been exhausted. But, he said: ?If Iraq begins to make problems for the work of the inspectors, then Russia may change its position and agree with the United States on the development of different, tougher U.N. Security Council decisions,? Putin said during a visit to Ukraine.

Alright, we are getting the Ruskies on our side. Maybe one less veto vote.

Well, first the inspectors have to prove wrongdoing. Or if the US proves it with our operatives. Then, we need all 5 votes in the UN. 1 vote against is a veto, and the US would have to go in without the blessings of the UN which could cause problems. If all the UN members back it, then the US is free willy at that point.

wrongdoing has already been proved. iraq is in breach of the resolution. they haven't shown that they've disarmed, which was the burden on them. we really only need the vote of the security council to make it official.

True but the lid hasn't been blown yet. Blix is being diplomatic until the end. So we wait.
