It can fire in bursts of 5-50 shells, after which is has to cool for 15 minutes. It CAN fire all 500 shells but the gun must be discarded after that.

Also, that was a 6000-ton ship. No way a 30mm machine gun can sink that ship. Complete nonsense.

The ship was in a heavy storm and simply took some water.

If the cruiser pumped 500 shells into the vessel (cargo ship), they had to be using very small shells.

It was not 5" shells that were being used.

Also, the ship was "escaping" after being confined due to smuggling.

The Chinese are not going to do squat.

Supposition is based on what was published.

The word cruiser was used.

Not the first time this has happened. In 1983 Russia (USSR then) shot down an unarmed, clearly marked Korean Air Line Boeing 747 which strayed into its airspace, killing 269 people including a US Congressman. KAL 007

WWI started thanks to Austria and Russia. Austria-Hungary's sole heir to the thrown was assassinated and they lagged responding with force against the country responsible. Russia was angry about Austria's growing influence in the area and mobilized her troops. The powder keg then exploded after the domino of alliance activations started.

WWII started when Russia and Germany jointly invaded Poland (Russia from the east and Germany from the west) after Britain and France had talked with Germany asking them to stop being so aggressive.

Hitler broke the non-aggression pact with the Soviet Union when Germany launched the largest invasion in the history of the world that was operation Barbarossa.

"and was chased by a cruiser" Like star wars, but for real.

Pretty rare that a ship is sunk by the navy these days..
