Russia cutting all military ties with NATO

Could be bad news for European exports to Russia, which is one of the few markets for their goods that are still growing.
Also, Russia has been helping with intelligence in Afghanistan. Probably not so much after this.

NATO had already done this on their end.

We'll see what Russia actually does, if anything. A military response is pretty much out unless they are suicidal.

Russia should just put up a few missiles in Cuba, Venezuela, etc. 🙂

Yeah, this 'missile shield' thing is just so fucking dumb. There are a million and one ways to bypass it. It is there only to piss off Russia.

And no Russia is not only hot air. They have loads of hot energy Europe needs.

The Europeans, especially Germany, basically funded the invasion of Georgia.

You mean the counterattack into Georgia? How do you mean Germany funded that?

According to report on HuffPo, the Russians are supplying arms to Hamas and Hezbollah while Israel is giving arms to the Georgians.

So how come Russia isn't on the state sponsors of terror list AND why is Israel giving/selling weapons to Georgia that were bought with American taxpayer money?

"It's logical," explains General Vyachislav Borisov, as we stand in the stench and the night waiting for Lomaia to return. "We are here because the Georgians are incompetent, because their administration collapsed and the town was being looted. Look at this," showing me on his cell phone photographs of weapons of Israeli origin, which he emphasizes heavily, "Do you think we could leave all this lying around without supervision? And let me tell you," he struts around, striking a match to light a cigarette, startling the little blond tank gunner who had fallen asleep in his turret, "We summoned the Israeli Foreign Minister to Moscow. And he was told that if he continues to supply arms to the Georgians we would continue to supply Hezbollah and Hamas." We would continue? What an admission! Two hours go by.

HuffPo

So exactly WTF is going on here?

Sounds like both Russia and Israel have some explaining to do.

So is this one of the signs of Christ returning or not?

Cause if it is I need to dust the house and put out some fresh flowers or something. Maybe some nice finger sandwiches or maybe some spinach and artichoke dip.

No need, I'll explain it for you: The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

The US has been practicing that since its inception. It's the reason we funded Osama, the Taliban and their Mujaheddin. It's the reason we supplied chemical and conventional weapons to Saddam.

When McCain told us "there will be other wars", he wasn't kidding.

If McCain is elected, the US/NATO will go to war with Russia in the Caucuses, running to the aid of his jet-skiing buddy Sackofshitvelli.

Why? So Europe can save some money on their gas bill.

Russia has already said that Georgia will not gain control of the breakaway provinces ever again; they are either going independent, or will be annexed by Russia.

Oy.

I want to know why the MSM has NEVER to my knowledge, ever reported that Russia was supplying arms to Hamas and the Hezbo's.

I want to know why we are continuing to give aid to Israel so they can give it away to someone else.

Finally, I want to know why you are so against Georgia and FOR Russia. Is it just because of McCain? I see that as a separate issue.

There are ZERO credible reports of any human rights violations by Georgian soldiers which was given as the reason for Russia steamrolling.

So, russia must be playing JP style, day late and a dollar short. This all means oh so much with Nato already partaking such relation actions.

The oil/gas market is a seller's market, didn't you hear? NATO's reaction is all bark, no bite.

Russia is the big bad European bully ........ they want to remain known as a superpower so they flex their muscles and beat their chest.
They will try to hurt us on the economic front but they don't have the balls to actually confront us. It'll all be indirect attacks.
This could have avoided if the Georgians had discussed instead of acted so I hold them partially responsible for this mess.
Looks like Israel got caught with its fingers in the cookie jar ...... bad diplomacy.

If Russia has been directly supplying arms to Hezbollah (which they have to date denied doing) I think the Israelis will tell Putin to go fsck himself.

Why does Israel have any explaining to do in this case? Are they not allowed to sell arms to a sovereign country? Whereas Russia has admitted providing arms to terrorist organizations. It's an apples and oranges comparison.

Well, not to sound child but "Georgia started it." That's not to say "Go Russia, destablize the entire planets sense of security!" because I'm not thrilled about the prospects of resuming our cold war posture merely because our expansionist ideals (ones more in line with my own values) conflict with Russia's expansionist ideals (totalitarianism ftl 🙁 )

Saakashvelli (close enough) quite literally dragged us into this situation and anything beyond that is merely opinion, conjecture, or both.

From TLC's link

"Let me make one thing clear," he interrupts me, with a sudden gravity. "We cannot let them say that we started this war ... It was early August. My ministers were on vacation, as I was too, in Italy, at a weight-loss spa, getting ready to go to Beijing. Then in the Italian press I read, "War preparations are under way in Georgia." You understand me. Here I was just hanging out in Italy and I read in the paper that my own country is preparing for a war! Realizing that something was wrong, I rushed back to Tbilisi. And what did my intelligence services tell me?" He makes the face of someone who has posed a difficult riddle and is waiting for you to find the answer, "That the Russians at the exact moment they are showering the press corps with this garbage are also emptying Shrinvali of its inhabitants, they're massing troops and troop transports, positioning fuel trucks on Georgian soil, and finally, sending columns of tanks through the Roky tunnel which separates the two Ossetias. Now, suppose you are the leader of the country and you hear this, what do you do?" He gets up to answer two cell phones which are ringing at the same time on his desk, comes back, stretching out his long legs ... "After the hundred and fiftieth tank lines itself up facing your cities, you are forced to admit that the war has begun, and despite the disproportion in the forces opposing us, you no longer have a choice."

So who started this?
