It's 90% pure gold. You could nick it with your fingernails. Gold of that purity is very very soft.

I have been following this w/some regularity, as it's been hyped up for months now.

Back in the 1980's my Father worked at Sotheby's as a Gallery Attendant (translation: working class slob). He got me in as a summer hire two years in a row (working class slob). I got to see AND handle: Louis XIV furniture, Picasso paintings, rare coins, gems and other artwork. Even got to handle some Elvis Presley clothing in genuine, unwashed condition! (Ewwwwww...)

Sotheby's = Place where people with so much money that you and I together could not count it in four weeks' time go shopping for crap they will never use, touch, look at or care about.

i just saw that on TV! roosevelt outlawed gold ownership so the coin was never put into production and thats the only one ever "monetized." it was housed in the basement of the WTC and removed in january 2001, avoiding being destroyed in the terrorist attacks.

Did you notice that PCGS stepped in a pile and publicly announced that they thought it would grade MS65? Who are they kidding. Beyond the obvious marks, one of the rumors floating around is that the King's staff regularly cleaned his coins.

I'd rather have one of the ultra high relief versions, and keep a few $mil in the bank.

A 1933 Double Eagle gold coin that never went into circulation was sold Tuesday for $7.59 million ? believed to be the most ever paid for a coin at auction.
