Rush Time Machine Tour was awesome. $11 for a beer not so cool

They closed their North America tour dates in my home town last night.

It was probably one of the best Rush shows ever (I only saw 3, but many there had been to see then many more times than me and said the same thing).

Well produced and an excellent soundboard. Very few timing mistakes that probably no one but a 'fan' caught.

Really good crowd there, very diverse. From teenagers to little old people (which I was surprised to see without other family with them).

The thing that sucked was a 20oz beer on draft was $11. A regular can was $8. That's just fucking insane. At least parking is still free, but since the last time I was at this venue they added three tiers of paid parking....$40, $20, $10 now pushing the free zone much further out. Fortunately I arrived early. Fortunately they do allow you to bring one bottle of any sized water in with you if you wanted and unlimited food. I usually don't eat at a show, but the 1/4 pound hot dogs were $8.50.

In the end it was worth it.

Wait til you see how much Rush charges for Tshirts... It sucks that the tour/Rush are gouging idiots but if fans are willing to pay the money they will gouge.

WTH goes to a concert without a flask in their boot?

I drank 6 20oz beers. I don't like hard whiskey so much. I'd need bigger boots.

The T-shirts were $35. One upgraded one was $55. A hoodie was $90. The cheapest were earrings $10 and socks at $20. Didn't check out the posters.

I am not flaming Rush...the venue controls the concessions though...I don't know if the bands get cuts of it, even though....they are always the same in any concert so it's the venue placing the price not the band.

Merchandise I don't care about...you can skip it. Food and drinks not really.

Probably backstage. She's dating some promoter/advertiser.

cool...I'd love a tour of that place...it's all warehouse looking from the outside. But very tall...the thing I don't get in all of it is the roadies still have to climb up rope ladders when they could have access from the back with a platform. Seems a bit fashion over function to me...I am sure there are offices and lounges located there though that wouldn't provide it.

It was a great show, the band even made an appearance behind a fence next to the show which was cool...many snapped up 'candid' photos...only Rush would do that. They even walked on stage at times to help set up. I never saw that happen yet for a show this crowded.

All the seats were sold out and the lawn seating pretty damn full.

The band can lower the price on their merch if they want, they have complete control over merch (not concessions/venue) as you can see by their ripoff fanclub tshirt prices:

Bands are clever, they only sell certain tees on the tour to increase its perceived value. Most of the time you can sometimes find a few on ebay for slightly cheaper while the tour is still going but have to keep an eye out:

Geez.. How can people put up with stuff like that? I really don't think it's a good idea on the part of the organizers to allow such gouging. I guess going to concerts will probably never fade from popularity, but I'm sure you aren't the only one to notice it. I wouldn't be surprised to see a backlash from consumers, even if only in the form of smuggling more of your own stuff in.

A partially ripped tag is a factory defect usually.

I don't have a problem with the merchandise sales though.

If I'm not mistaken, most concerts are like this. That's how event organizers make their money. Lord knows it's not from ticket sales, which I'm damn sure RIAA and the band swallow up every penny.

Ahh.. Probably the case.

Sad. I mean, I have nothing against the band getting their share, but fuck the RIAA.

Can any of you young'uns here imagine trying to date old's daughter?

You ring the doorbell, the door opens, she's nowhere to be seen but there's olds with an evil glint in his eye. He puts a meaty paw on your shoulder and immediately invites you down into the basement for a chat . . . D:

It's the same reason why movie theatres charge so much for snacks. Profit margins on ticket sales are razor thin. You just have to be creative in smuggling in your own beer and food. It is a Rush concert after all. I can't badmouth a national treasure. :D

This is why you give the hobo a $20 bill to ring that bell first and ask for her...:)

Once you hear the bandsaw turn on, profit.

I remember paying $40 for a ticket way back when and feeling ripped off. Can't park the car for $40 now.

i went to the DC show at Nissan aka "Jiffy Lube Live!" Pavilion. It was easily one of the worst concerts I've ever been to. Not because of the performance (entirely), but because the acoustics were absolutely terrible and made the music unlistenable. I don't know if I'll ever go to another show in that pavilion, which sucks because it hosts a lot of the major name shows that come through here.

But I will say this - Geddy's singing is terrrrrrible. I get maybe he's losing his voice as he gets older, but it seemed like his voice was cracking like a pubescent every 10th word. This is a video from the show; every song was pretty much like this, singing wise.

(the audio quality isn't too far off from what it sounded like live, either)

My daughter was there last night.

lies. Everyone knows that women don't go to Rush concerts!

I went to one of the last Dead concerts and it was pathetic. The band was fine but the average age of the crowd was 14! WTF. They closed down all but one bar.

The all time best concert was an outdoor blues fest in Minnesota featuring ZZ Top, Marshall Tucker and Charlie Daniels Band. You could bring in your own food and booze and lasted all day.
