Rush Limbaugh's deafness caused by Oxycontin?

My friend Peter over at The Daily Column brought up a very interesting point:

If you recall, Rush Limbaugh suddenly went deaf back in October 2001. Well, I did some searching on the Net, and I found out that "people who abuse Vicodin and other chemically comparable prescription drugs by taking exceptionally high dosages for several months or more" have suffered from sudden hearing loss and even complete deafness. From what I have been reading, Vicodin (hydrocodone) and Oxycontin (oxycodone) are chemically comparable prescription drugs.

Just thought this was an interesting possibility. If there's any truth to it I'm sure the real media will pick up on it soon enough. But remember, if it turns out to be true, you heard it here first!

My wife is in her third year of pharmacy school and looked up some documentation on those two drugs and couldn't find any information on this side effect caused by these drugs.

Antibiotics on the hand are well known to cause deafness in extreme doses.

Interesting. But completely and utterly false. Research before making assumptions.

It's amazing how everyone is so obsessed with this guy. Especially the Lefties. It's like they spend their whole life waiting for this guy to make a mistake, then they pounce.

I did a little research and masturbation over celebrities in the news can cause deafness. Remember...you heard it here first.

Bah, you caught me before I could edit it out. I was going to retract my statement because I guess drugs could cause the autoimmune inner ear disease. But I thought the latest rumor is that he got hooked on drugs after the disease. (Edit: but the national inquirer says before:Q )So who knows. But who cares? LOL @ red dawn. 😀

hmmmm... maybe that's where the famous presidential quote "read my lips,no new taxes " orignated from? 😀

I thought he took the painkillers to help with the pain from his implants. What pain did he need to kill before he went deaf?

The pain from what he heard on his left.

All of this is BS about Rush.

THE LATEST (ABC)
A high-ranking official in Florida has told ABCNEWS some surprising details about the state's investigation of Rush Limbaugh.

ABCNEWS has confirmed that radio mega-star Rush Limbaugh is being investigated for allegedly buying illegal prescription drugs near his Palm Beach, Fla., home. Palm Beach authorities had no official comment.

"We don't comment on investigations," said Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office.

But a source close to the investigation told ABCNEWS that Limbaugh's former housekeeper claims she helped Limbaugh purchase thousands of prescription painkillers over a four-year period ? at times in the parking lot of a local Denny's restaurant. Among the drugs she says she purchased: the highly addictive Oxycontin.

The source also says investigators have audiotapes of at least two drug transactions ? allegedly with Limbaugh's voice ? but these were recorded secretly by the former housekeeper, not by police.

Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates the politically focused Rush Limbaugh Show to more than 650 markets, issued a statement from Limbaugh on Thursday saying: "I am unaware of any investigation by any authority involving me. No government representative has contacted me directly or indirectly. If my assistance is required, I will, of course, cooperate fully."

If the allegations prove true, the talk show host will undoubtedly need to address some of his past comments about drug abuse.

Back in 1995, Limbaugh told his audience on the syndicated Rush Limbaugh, The Television Show that people who are obtaining drugs illegally should be held responsible.

"Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up," he said to his audience during the broadcast.

Media Columnist Michael Wolff says Limbaugh's career might not be able to survive a drug charge.

"It would be labeled as an instance of incredible hypocrisy ? Mr. Family values, Mr. Tough on Crime," Wolff said.

At risk for Limbaugh, not just his credibility, but a media empire that has earned his networks and stations more than a billion dollars since 1988.

"If this is a felony we're talking about here, than this is the end of Rush Limbaugh. That's it," Wolff said.

Limbaugh gave up his job as an ESPN sports analyst late Wednesday, three days after saying on the sports network's Sunday NFL Countdown that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because the media wanted to see a black quarterback succeed.

ABCNEWS' Bob Woodruff contributed to this report.

This ain't gonna go away. 😛

Not if she can produce tapes proving that Limbaugh bought the drugs. If she has proof then whats to question?

That is denied by the Enq. And she stand to LOSE big time if she is lying . . .

1) there is an investigation

2) there is some evidence

I am looking forward to see how this plays out - especially to people who idolize who could be one of the BIGGEST HYPOCRITES of our time - or not. 😉

For ONCE, I am looking forward to his show - think anyone will bring this up - or will someone else be subbing for Rush again today?

According to her own story, she also got 6 figures from Rush. Rush Hush money. LOL. Then she went to the authorities and the Enquirer. Pretty sleazy.

I'll give Rush the benefit of the doubt for now. He has always been the epitome of character and she is obviously sleazy. It may all be true, but let's wait and see.

Perhaps the most amazing part is that Rush ever hired this "person" (and I use the term loosely) in the first place.

Can't stand that man, my freaking whole family listen to him but thats BS about going deaf because of drugs

I was addicted to Vicodin/Norco/Oxy/Perco/Morphine for over 4 years and spent almost 3 years in NA and I have perfect hearing and yes I did take heavy doses of Vicodin/Norco as many as 8 to 15 pills a day and Oxy/Perco depending on its MG as many as 2 to 4.

While I don't agree with Rush Limlaugh and realize he's just catering to those people in need of validation.

I will say he is a smart and now rich man.

I will say anyone who is rich and in the media becomes a target.

I will say it would not be the first time some minial worker tried to cash in on false or exaggerated statements.

I will also say paying someone 'hush' money does not mean guilt. It just means you wanted to solve the problem.

I don't know if he did in fact pay her hush money. That's what she says. If she is exaggerating and/or fabricating the whole story, that may not even be true.

There is a member here at AT that has smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day for 20 years but is healthy as a horse. So by your rationale, since our fellow member does not have cancer then cigarettes do not cause health problems.

bahahahahahaah!!!!

character?

anyone that spends his time blatantly twisting the truth into lies has absolutly no character.

you know he ducked out of vietnam by citing his ass pimple?

the same congenital ass pimple his father had and went to world war 2 with? 😛 and this is the man that questioned clintons lack of military service😛
