To be fair, Rush became addicted through medical needs, not recreational. There IS a difference in the responsibility factor there.

Seems reasonably well put to me.
What is reasonable is that he liked the Buzz..enought to get these drugs illicitly

Some news stories say he got the drugs illicitly but since he hasn't been charged I would expect you to give him the benefit of the doubt.

You've failed me again, Red.
No you've failed yourself. No legit DR would keep on prescribing him those kind of drugs, especially after he has on 2 earlier occasions gone to Rehab to kick his addiction.

I guess you're right. I don't follow his life story as well as I should. I shall hang my head in shame.

Note to self - Find more time to keep up with celebrity trials and tribulations.

Continue note -- A little research into areas I'm unclear of, or lacking full facts in, will prevent me from talking out my @ss and having ppl catch me for it.

I frankly hate Rush. Pompous and arrogant are a good start in describing him. Maybe if he had done something more about his habit, practiced what he preached, then I could give him an ounce of respect. Perhaps even if he had admitted failing in a more dramatic way to his pandering fans and the public at large. As it is... nah. Just one more reason to dislike him.

give me a break dittohead

Actually, I hardly ever listen to him. I've heard him maybe twice in the last 5 years.

And from what I understand of his views, I would probably disagree with him 50% of the time as I am a social liberal.

I doubt he liked the buzz so much as the relief from the withdrawals. Once you are addicted, the buzz is minimal, but the relief is enormous.

That's possible.

Yeah, that's the only way it could have been, seeing as how he had a public speaking job for so long and no one ever suspected he was on dope. Screwed in the head, yes, high, no. He was a highly functional addict.

That is the danger of that drug. It does not really get you high (unless you are crushing/snorting), but it gives you a rush and gets you addicted. People do die from stopping cold turkey...and I garauntee you that he has not been prescribed any more pain killers, at least none in the oxycodone family.

This drug is no joke and I respect him for (hopefully) putting an end to its involvment in his life. Don't know his politics so I won't comment on that.

I am really surprised that he detoxed in only 5 weeks. He looked a little to "healthy" to have done this thing cold turkey. My guess, as someone stated above, is that he's being prescribed something else and monitored. There are good "Non-narcotic" painkillers out there, perhaps he's gone that route.

The sh1t thing about being hooked on these things is that if you have actual chronic pain you may never be able to quit taking medication. You just pray it doesn't get out of control like in this instance.

And to all the haters out there, yes he said some hypocritical things, but I guess you all have never done such a vile thing. And I bet none of you are addicted to something either. So please have pity for the rest of us "mortals".

That's what his fans call themselves:)

Ayup...people call in and instead of offering their own opinion of what Rush just said or a previous caller, they just say, "Ditto" and hang up.

Pretty much the same as someone just quoting a post here and adding no content.
