I like prog rock/metal, but can't stand Rush. I bought 2112 after reading some many people liked it. I hated it. Ejected the disc and snapped it in half.

Why? Even people who don't like Rush, even people who don't like prog rock, agree that's it one of the best rock albums ever.

I despised the way it sounded; the shrill vocals and wimpy guitar. I just don't care for them in general. I'll listen to just about anything if recorded well and the sound quality is good.

You're crazy. I accept that some people don't like Rush, but to makes such a claim indicates a significant detachment from reality.

The sleep is still in my eyes
the dream is still in my head
I heave a sigh and sadly smile
and lie a while in bed

I wish that it might come to pass
not fade like all my dreams

I wonder what my life might be
in a world like I have seen
I dont think I could carry on
carry on this cold and empty life

I saw Rush in concert every time they came to my city form the early/mid-80s to the early '90s, probably a dozen concerts in all.

Excellent shows live.

seen them 3 times, wish it were more then that been amazing every time

I have memory and awareness,
But I have no shape or form.
As a disembodied spirit,
I am dead and yet unborn.
I have passed into Olympus
As was told in tales of old,
To the city of Immortals,
Marble white and purest gold...

weird, i was listening to Dream Theater when I read this last page.

anyhoo Rush is awesome. I am fail though, for I have never seen them in concert.

I love a lot of the old stuff, and a few tracks off of Roll the Bones. especially Dreamline.

in general, i am a huge Rush fan. Geddy's voice never annoyed me. I don't like people that can't get over that his voice is different. they're the greatest 3-man band ever!

Rush 2112 is one of my, "lay on my back too high to stand up and call out for an album," albums.

Saw them in the mid-eighties.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill;
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill.

Bolded is best ever.

To stand within the Pleasure Dome
Decreed by Kubla Khan
To taste anew the fruits of life
The last immortal man
To find the sacred river Alph
To walk the caves of ice
Oh, I will dine on honeydew
And drink the milk of Paradise

A Farewell to Kings - 1977

Our first stop is in Bogota
To check Colombian fields
The natives smile and pass along
A sample of their yield
Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams
Golden Acapulco nights
Then Morocco, and the East
Fly by morning light

2112 - 1976

You don't get something for nothing,
You can't have freedom for free.
You won't get wise with the sleep still in your eyes,
No matter what your dream might be.

Know your place in life is where you want to be,
Don't let them tell you that you owe it all to me.
Keep on looking forward; no use in looking 'round,
Hold your head above the ground and they won't bring you down.

A couple more quotes for the thread.

Triumph fvckin ROCKS!!!!
I saw Triumph at the Toledo Speedway Jam. They were supposed to be the opening band (Heart, J. Geils, Blackfoot, Triumph), but they must have gotten there late so they played last. Everybody left so they played for like 1000 of us. It was great.

Huge Rush fan here too. I've seen them in concert several times, including one where they played 2112 all the way through, that was awesome.

Lately I've been getting into Coheed & Cambria; they remind me a lot of Rush. If you are a Rush fan, check them out.

I like them, but I wouldn't put them up there with my favorites. Still, Permanent Waves is an amazing album, I have the mofi edition.

Did any of you guys play All Pro Football 2k8?
Hopefully at least someone else here was pissed at the awful remix of Tom Sawyer they played on near loop.
